Two Ways: A Bold Fall Color Pairing

Oct 22, 2024

This weekend, I found the most gorgeous fall outfit on Pinterest. It mixed a subtle brick red with camel hues to create an outfit that was colorful and bold, but still approachable. Here’s how to create it for the office and work from home.

The inspiration photo grabbed my attention immediately. I loved the mix of the rusty, brick red with the soft camel sweater and the dark camel coat. So easy, so chic.

The Pants // These brick red pants from J.Crew give you the boldness of red in a slightly softer hue. I love the classic look, and their four-season stretch material means you can wear them year round. Lix Claiborne has a similar pair for less, also in plus.

The Sweater // I maintain that Everlane has the best basics. This camel turtleneck sweater is no exception. Size up for a slouchier fit.

The Coat // This Vince coat is a stunner (as is the price tag). The darker color lets you have a bit of Fall 2024’s chocolatey goodness with a softer look you can wear season after season. Need a less pricey option? This Aritzia coat is a great sub.

The Shoes // Leopard is my #1 shoe choice for anything red. It’s a bold addition to an already bold palette. So I chose these Margaux pumps that have enough brown and black in them that they can be worn with anything. For a pointed toe option, I love these Nine West pumps.

The Jewelry // If you are looking for the best demi-fine jewelry on the market, you want Mejuri. I love everything they make. The quality is phenomenal. These hoop earrings and large dome ring are no exception. They give a subtle impact that is really hard to find in an affordable, well-made piece.

The Bag // I was unsure where to go with a bag color for this outfit. Another brown felt like too much brown. Black felt too harsh. Amazingly, ChatGPT came through and suggested either burgundy or forest green. I wasn’t sure how either choice would look at first, but this green flap bag actually provides the right amount of contrast. It’s a different choice than I would normally make, but I love it. For a more commute-friendly option, try this affordable bag from JW Pei.

For work from home, outfits look different. No trousers when you’re sitting in a char all day. No heels when you’re just walking to the kitchen. No coat or purse needed. But you can still capture the same palette.

The Jeans // Old Navy has these rusty brick jeans for a very affordable price. High waisted with a wide leg, these jeans are comfy and on trend. Sizes run petite and tall, 00-30. Lots of colors.

The Sweater // My office is very hot. Middle of October, 36-degree morning, and I have the window open. It’s a furnace. So this short sleeve J.Crew sweater is the way to go. I love the idea of pairing it with this hoodie for a more modern, casual twinset. Need a cheaper option? Quince has a cashmere tee for under-$50.

The Topper // Sezane has this gorgeous Betty jacket in a deep hickory color. It’s a modern look that pairs well for work or work from home. Amazon has a very similar jacket for less, if you like the vibe but not the price. This is just a very easy topper that you can take on and off as need be for Zooms and lunches.

The Loafers // Rothy’s are my go to house shoes if I’m not wearing slippers. I adore these Desert Cat ones. I own this print in two styles because it can really be worn with anything. These are currently discounted for the sizes they still have in stock, which are mostly 9-13.

The Earrings // For a Zoom, I like bigger earrings. These Roxanne Assoulin earrings have a very unique, almost hoop like shape, but wear like a stud. They’re absolutely phenomenal and would make a great gift for your Mom, your friend, or your Aunt.
