Ask the Editor: Vol. IV, No. Seventeen

This week, I returned from my trip to Montana completely exhausted. So it’s time to reach into the reader mail bag to answer a few questions. Let’s start.

Any progress on finding all white sneakers?

Yes, these from J.McLaughlin are very low profile and all-white with a subtle cognac accent on the heel.  They’re perfect for summer.

Hi Abra.

My shoe shelf is looking grim.  I need a pair of tan or cognac leather slides.  I want the look of an Hermes Oran, but I don’t want to buy a direct knock off.  Seen anything?

Kaylee

There are plenty of exact copies of the Oran sandal.  These French Sole shoes in particular.  But if you want something with the same feel, but a different look, I have some thoughts.

These Ann Taylor sandals with a gold buckle accent are probably my favorite option.  These Kaanas sandals with a woven texture are also fun.  This Linx slide from Nordstrom also looks like a winner.

For myself, I need an ankle strap, slides will not cut it.  So I chose these Linea Paolo sandals for summer.  And if you need a wide option, these Bay Cutout Sandals are worth a look.

Abra,

What did you buy to wear last summer that you’re still wearing?  I feel like you try a lot of things, and I’m curious what lasted.

Sincerely, Stella

My gauze sets from Gap.  I bought two, and now that the weather is not chilly, but not hot, I am wearing them every week.  They’re light enough to take a quick trip outside, but warm enough that I don’t give myself a chill.

This season, they’re also offering a really chic short sleeve option.  So I bought the new off-white color in that style.  Sizes are TTS and run XS-XXL.

From Instagram DMs: If you could only have one beauty product on your shelf, which one would it be.

It’s going to be the Prequel face wash.  My skin has felt so much less dry and fractious since I switched.  In fact, I just started using it as a body wash, so I snagged another bottle.

Ok, I hear you on the gauze matching set. It seems lightweight and slightly polished, great for my WFH life where some days I only leave the house to walk my kids to school. BUT how do I style a matching set so it doesn’t look like pajamas? Or in 2024 do we all just understand that there is a fuzzy line between pajamas/loungewear/WFH apparel?

    • Mary says:

In doing a lot of Instagram/Pinterest following on this front, it seems its mostly about the other items than the matching set itself: accessories (throw on a bit of jewery and a handbag), shoes (a cute pair of white sneakers like the ones above or a sandal with a small heel rather than a flip flop) and intentional hair/makup (not necessiarly a lot, but something a bit more polished than the bare face and messy pony I typically leave the house in…).

Could be a good topic for a future Two Ways post!

Agreed, I would love a styling post on this!

I highly recommend Cariuma for sneakers. They have tons of options, canvas and leather. I pronate and can wear these non-stop with no discomfort. https://www.cariuma.com/collections/women?gad_source=1&gclid=CjwKCAjw8diwBhAbEiwA7i_sJcNSZRzv8xn25VKbAzRk-067BCdtEL_PPdnUeifky1y_pJMhpsbz1hoC-l8QAvD_BwE&currency=USD

    • Kristen LeBlanc says:

Ooooh I’ve been eyeing the Cariuma since I’m on a “better fashion” and sustainability kick. I love their story and also the polka dot ones are so fun. I may pull the trigger now with your recommendation!

      • CLSVA says:

I LOVE LOVE LOVE my Cariumas. I have the all white ones and it just lasted me for a 3 week trip to europe. I walked about 5-7 miles most days and climbed too many ancient stairs in mine. They lasted, they still look great and most importantly, my feet, back and knees didn’t hurt. I love the story, the look and the shoes. These are ones I’ll keep replacing. Highly suggest!

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
