The Find: Joggers for Those Days

Feb 6, 2024

Last week, I had a succession of bad days in a row. This probably had something to do with the fact that I was on my period. But may have just been that everyone was stupid, work was extra hard, none of my clothes fit, and I’m stressed out about everything. Yeah, I was on my period.

On those days, despite my goal to wear “real” clothes everyday, I did not want to wear jeans or pants with a waistband. I wanted to wear leggings. I needed to wear leggings. But guess who doesn’t have a single pair of leggings that fit when she’s on her period? 🙋🏻‍♀️

Luckily, Zella had recently restocked my favorite pair of joggers and I had asked for a pair for Valentine’s Day. Some women want diamonds and chocolates, I, apparently, want to be able to sit without being pinched and poked.

I bought my first pair of these Zella Restore Joggers before I got pregnant. I wore them to death. My pregnant belly stretched them to within an inch of their lives right up until week 38. And, yet, somehow they are still kicking. So when I had a chance to buy another pair (or two) I did not hesitate.

What makes these pants great is: 1) the wide waistband that lays flat and smooths, 2) the slim, but not overly tapered leg, 3) the pockets that can hold a regular size iPhone, but lay flat so they don’t cause bulk, and 4) the soft, comfortable material. I was heartbroken when they didn’t make them in 2022-2023, and thrilled to see them again now. Sadly, the largest size they offer in this style is 18.

I am a size 8 bottom and just on the top end of Small for these pants. Could easily take a medium and wouldn’t be swimming in it, but I prefer the slimmer fit. The color ways for this line are great. Obviously, I bought the black and settled on the light grey as well.

I love these joggers. I really think you will too.

I have two pairs of Zella leggings that I bought on your recommendation in 2013… they are still kicking more than a decade later, even after being worn during 3 pregnancies! Definitely going to check these out.

I’m 23 weeks and too big for pre-pregnancy pants and way too small for maternity pants. Thank you!

second these joggers. I bought them in every color over the years. They will after many washes pill, and I don’t find them to be the most flattering (size small and fit), but they are amazing feeling.

I also recommend the Old Navy Cloud 94 joggers. They’re thinner material but AMAZING. Unfortunately doesn’t seem like they’re making them anymore either?

Does anyone know of some quality joggers with extended inseams? I cannot find any that are long enough for me and it’s a travesty.

There are a lot of negative comments from last summer that the fit of these changed (for the worse) from the previous version. Do you agree with those comments or is the fit similar to your previous pair?

I sized down, so I didn’t notice a significant size change, but I did notice the fabric was different and the waist wasn’t ribbed. Neither of these changes were that significant for me though.

I absolutely love Athleta’s Venice Mid Rise Joggers. They have a nice weight so they feel slightly more like pants, but they still have all the softness/comfort of athleisure. The pockets fit my Pixel 7 Pro, plus there’s a zip pocket for small bits; like the Zellas they have a wide waistband. And because it’s Athleta, they come in a wide range of sizes and colors. (Get a Pranayama Restore Wrap for a matching set look!) As a 5’10” person who’s typically size 16-18, I get the XL tall so my ankles are covered in winter. If I wanted a summer ankle pop, the regular length would be perfect.

I’ve worn them with a merino wool henley on cross-country flights that lead directly to around-town sightseeing and felt both very comfortable and just-coordinated-enough that I could be in public.
