Four More Work Travel Essentials

Aug 9, 2023

I’m currently on my first real work trip in several years, and it is wild being back.  Last week, I wrote about the five products that I need to bring on work trips, and there were so many great suggestions in the comments, I decided to expand the post (and my own shopping list).  Here’s what I brought.

One. Slippers // It’s true, I pack my Ugg slippers when I travel.  I just need that relief at the end of a day spent in less-than-comfortable work shoes.  But when a reader suggested a Barefoot Dreams pair, I realized they would take up far less room in my suitcase.  This pale grey pair are fabulous, but (of course) I chose the grey leopard-print pair.  Looking for an inexpensive pair?  Try this sleek pair from Ofoot.

Two. Reusable Pouches // I found these reusable pouches accidentally on a Target run, and they are awesome.  I filled mine with shampoo, lotion and conditioner.  I could bring just the right amount, they take up very little space, and they are so much easier to fill than most of the bottles I’ve used in the past.  Plus, they’re just $12 for 18 pouches.  They’d also be great for sunscreen.

Three. A Silk Pillowcase // The older I get, the drier my skin gets.  A reader recommend keeping your delicate skin protected from cheap, hotel pillowcases with a silk pillowcase.  The material is much kinder to skin than cotton.  Plus, they’re easier on your hair as well.

I already owned a Slip pillowcase that someone gifted me, but you can pick one up on Amazon for less.  I thought this one from Kitsch was a great buy.

Four. A Travel Perfume Atomizer // If you love your signature scent, you can pack it with you on trips without putting the whole bottle at risk of spillage.  I thought this atomizer with leather and metal accents was especially chic, and it comes in fabulous colors.  But you can also pick up a less expensive option in case you travel with multiple scents.

So what’s my favorite perfume?  I keep it light with this citrusy scent from Bon Perfumer.

Make sure to pick a pillow case with a bright color, otherwise, it might be easy to leave behind.

I second this! As someone who frequently drives to their vacation destination and brings her own pillow, having a pillow that won’t blend in with the white hotel/vacation rental sheets is key! Not only does it save you from forgetting it, but if you’re in a hotel and they change your linens, you’re far less likely to lose your nice pillow case and go home with one that doesn’t match your bedding (been there, done that). I have a leopard print pillow case that I put on my pillow whenever I travel with it. Now I’m inspired to bring just the case with me when I fly too!
