The Find: A Citron Dress for Spring

Mar 14, 2023

Chasing color trends always reminds me of that scene in The Devil Wears Prada where Miranda Priestly explains to her young assistant that her cerulean poly-blend sweater she is wearing is the culmination of years of choices by fashion’s elite.  But lately, my wardrobe has drifted away from color and become a sea of black and ivory.

This season, yellow and citron have burst onto the scene like a squeeze of lemon.  From the designer racks at Neiman’s to the mannequins at Ann Taylor, these sunny hues are everywhere.  Here is a bright dress to invite this trend into your closet.

This affordable citron wrap dress with a blouson sleeve is from Banana Republic Factory.  It’s a nice choice for a spring event, like a wedding or a bridal brunch, but can still be worn in fall.  To dress it up, follow the styling in the photo — yellow gold jewels and simple flesh-toned heels.  To dress it down (or wear it in cold weather), pair it with a grey blazer and a snake-print point toe pump.

The dress above also comes in petite.  Plus-size?  Try this Renee C drape shoulder dress for under-$50.

I’ve been OBSESSED with these colors since the D&G dress Mindy Kaling wore to the Oscars in 2022. It became my mission to find a dress in the color for a wedding for that summer. Alas, I was unable to find one in my price point and I ended up with a blue number (not cerulean). This BR dress is a gorgeous find Abra.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
