Happy Hour: Bring Me a Shrub(bery)

Jan 6, 2023

If you’re working through Dry January, finding fun drinks for Friday Happy Hour can be a bit more of a challenge.  But one of my favorite cocktails, the Shrub, is the perfect festive mocktail.  Here is how to make one, even if you don’t plan on watching Monty Python search for the Holy Grail.

A shrub is a concentrated syrup made from fruit, vinegar and sugar.  Making your own is a great way to use up overripe fruit, berries and stone fruits work best.  Not into culinary chemistry?  Crafted cocktails has a pack of four flavors (pineapple, ginger, pear, blackberry) and Liber & Co. has so many flavors, you will sure to find one you enjoy.  Add seltzer water, ice, and enjoy.

Want a sweater that is relaxed and cozy?  Something you can toss on over leggings and wear while you lounge on the couch?  This oversized Amazon sweater (in more colors than you can count) is the ticket.  It’s very oversized, so while the size range is 4-22, it might actually be larger.  I bought the smallest size for a size 6 frame.

Perfect timing as I’m doing dry January. The link on how to Make them also goes to the Monty Python video. Thanks!

Love the drink idea and the sweater. Haven’t had a shrub but I like kombucha and seltzer. Sounds similar. My other favorite mocktail is pineapple juice, coconut water, and coconut seltzer. Can add mint.

Ooh that mocktail sounds delicious! I’m not doing Dry January (I don’t drink enough in general), but I’m always looking for fun beverages.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
