The Find: Let’s Talk About J.Crew Suiting

Nov 14, 2022

While I purchased many blazers to use as maternity attire, I haven’t purchased a new suit since before the pandemic.  So a few weeks ago, when I realized that I was headed back to work soon, I knew I needed to pick up a few.  And where did I find the best suits?  J.Crew.

I bought this Willa Blazer and Flare Leg Pant in the midnight burgundy (pictured).  It is so fantastic that I plan to snag it in the navy as well.  What makes it so great?  Well, I’m glad you asked.

First, the material is sublime. Far from the thin, crispy crepe that J.Crew was pawning off on us in 2016, this material is a sumptuous wool blend.  It feels weighty, but is soft to the touch.  It also drapes beautifully.  And unlike the suits they were making in the dark period, it is fully lined with a decent quality fabric.

Second, the suit is tailored just enough so that you could wear it off the hanger if you wanted to do so.  But a few nips and tucks, and it will fit like a much more expensive suit.

Lastly, this suit just feels expensive when you wear it.  I don’t know how to describe it any other way.  You put it on, and it feels like it belongs in a courtroom or on the Senate floor.

The suit is available in misses and plus sizes.  Also, if you’re not feeling the burgundy (but trust me, you’re feeling the burgundy) it comes in four more colors.

I liked this suit so much that I went back for this black suit in ponte and this cobalt blue suit.  I haven’t seen them yet though, because I’ve been out of town.

The ponte suit is AMAZING. I wore it recently for a workday that started at 3 AM and didn’t end until 19 hours later. I was the most comfortable AND the most polished-looking member of my team ALL. DAMN. DAY!

I was worried that the pandemic would end with clothing retailers making things that were even worse quality than they had been. Glad to hear that’s not the case here, and I’ve been loving what’s coming out of Banana Republic lately.

That ponte jacket looks amazing AND it’s machine washable. Such a good piece.

Did you take your true size for both the blazer and pants in the ponte? The website says the blazer runs large. Thanks!

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
