Outfit Week: A Look for Summer Court Appearances

Jul 18, 2022

A few weeks ago, I was going through old Instagram photos looking for a photo of some friends, and I noticed how much I loved some of my old outfits.  I also noticed how much thought I put into them, and I realized that I don’t really do that anymore.  Maybe it was the pandemic or being focused on other things, but I really wanted to start thinking about my outfits more.

So this week, I’ll be sharing outfits made with pieces from the store.  Let’s get started with a simple outfit for court.  Because some of us still need a good suit for our daily work.

One Button Seasonless Stretch Blazer

I love the way this periwinkle blouse complements the navy but also softens it.  The neckline pairs well with a blazer.  Want to wear a real bra under this top?  Buy a bra clip to pull the straps together.

A love a trouser-style pant.  It’s more flattering than a skinny pant on most women.  I’m glad that I can find these styles again.  If you prefer, they also offer a simple pencil skirt.

Navy pumps can be very difficult to find.  This Mila pair are styled for the office and pretty comfortable for 3.25 inch heel.  They also come in tan and black.

I bought these metal huggie hoops (also in silver) when they were full price, and I picked up a backup pair from the sale.  They’re perfect for work — a little shine in a professional package.

I appreciate when you provide really practical tips that can be applied beyond the specific outfit you share. In this post — how to wear a bra under this type of shirt — bra clips. I’ve never heard of such a thing. SO helpful!

I so agree with @MXJ. The nuances between the actual sources are always gems. I love this website and check it daily.

This is such a good point! One of my favorite things that separates this blog from a million insta influencers is the reasoning behind the choices.
Why wear this blouse? The neckline and the color, and here’s a practical tip to make it work. Why these pants? The cut is flattering for many people, or here’s a skirt alternative. It makes the post more than just a cute outfit to look at- I actually learn things about how to put clothes together!

Cait, this example is spot on. These insights taught me how to dress as a (very!) young professional who lacked role models in family (all blue collar – either uniforms or contractors) and environment (being male-dominated).

It’s great to see wearable clothes for a conservative office again! Not that I’ll be wearing a suit every day but when you need it, you need it.

  3. Rebecca says:

I’m glad trouser pants are back too! I was shopping this weekend and work pants were still hard to find!

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
