You Have, You Need: A Pleated Skirt

May 9, 2022

Do you have a closet full of “nothing to wear”?  You Have, You Need helps you come up with new ways to style pieces you already own.  And today, we’re talking about pleated skirts.

Pleated Skirts // The skirt above is from Reiss, one of my favorite splurge shops for work.  The pieces are always fantastic, and this midi-skirt, with a belted waist and front pleats is no exception.  It also comes in a gorgeous ivory.

Looking for something more affordable?  This MaxStudio skirt is comes in at under-$50.  This fuller, a-line DKNY skirt is also fabulous.  And if a full skirt of pleats isn’t for you, try this hem-pleat skirt from Wolf & Badger.  Plus-size?  Try this skirt from City Chic.

Short-Sleeve Sweater // A short-sleeve sweater like this one from J.Crew solves many wardrobe woes.  Wear it under a blazer.  Pair it with a cardigan.  Toss it on with jeans.  Wear it over a slinky slip dress.

Factory also makes a nice elbow-length sweater.  For something more interesting, this sale-priced sweater from Rebecca Taylor has a great texture to it.  I also love this striped option from Ralph Lauren.

Statement Necklace // The collar-style necklace mirrors the crewneck on this sweater.  The speckled print mixed with metal on this Ann Taylor necklace give you a chic look.  I also like this gold chain with an irregularly shaped, in-line pearl.  Want a bit of color?  Try this gold and green necklace from LOFT.

Printed Blouse // This Joie blouse has an impactful geometric print, while the color palette is subtle and neutral.  Mixing the two elements gives you a special piece.  This $125 Ralph Lauren blouse has similar elements in a bold indigo.

Prefer something more feminine?  Try this floral print blouse.  Plus-size?  I love the print on this green blouse.

Hoop Earrings // These Missoma hoops are one of my favorite pairs.  I love the oblong hoop shape and the pave accents.  This enamel pair are also a nice option.  Or if you just want an updated take on basic metal hoops, try these beaded hoops from Adina’s Jewels.  Need white metal?  Try these unique Sterling Forever rectangular hoops.

That Joie blouse is incredible! I’m trying to avoid dry cleaning but the idea of washing an expensive blouse like this makes me so nervous. Has anyone had any experience (good/bad) with handwashing Joie pieces with Laundress or something similar?

I love these! It reminds me of the earlier CHS days. I really loved when you would also include how to style your hair and makeup with each outfit!

Interesting. I didn’t know people liked that. Good to know.

Hair and make up ideas are the icing on the cake – especially if you’re in a rut or like replacing make up as we return to in person office and social life.

Just seconding this. I LOVE the hair and makeup recommendations to complete a look. Something ususally felt off in my styling and your recommendations helped me figure out which things I wasn’t thinking about (like how a collar and hairstyle interact or how a lipstick could otherwise brighten a neutral outfit.)

Those earrings are lovely. I’ve been trying to find a nice pair of clip-on hoops for ages, any chance you’d do a post for those of us who can’t wear pierced earrings?

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
