The Monday Outfit: Beach Bound and Down

Mar 14, 2022

I have beaches on the brain.  Sand.  Surf.  The ocean breeze.  So when I spotted this outfit from Kathleen Barnes on Pinterest, it spoke to my soul.  Whether you’re headed to brunch or the shore, it’s a calm, cool look that takes casual to a more sophisticated place.

A lightweight sweater, light-colored denim, and chic accessories make this outfit relaxed, but elegant.  Here is how to recreate it.

Sweater. A lightweight, neutral sweater is a great addition to your casual and professional wardrobes.  It lifts jeans, your go-to black pants, and pencil skirts to a new place.  It’s soft and pretty, and it just works.

This dolman sleeve sweater from Goodnight Macaroon is a great option.  I also love this sheer sweater with a ruffled hem on the sleeve.  I also love this cashmere v-neck sweater from Nordstrom.  Plus-size? Try this Treasure & Bond sweater.

Jeans. These wide leg off-white jeans give you the casual look of denim with a little something extra.  DL1961’s wide leg, ankle length jeans are a nice option.  For a straight option, Everlane has a nice jean (also in plus-size).  I also love these Paige jeans.

Shoes. For summer I am buying two pairs of shoes: braided sandals and huaraches from Nisolo (to replace the pair I left in a hotel in Arizona).  Huaraches are the perfect alternative for those of us who can’t wear sandals to work, but want something for casual Friday that feels summery.

Hat. I shared some summer hats a few weeks ago, and this one from Brixton is on my wishlist.  I like the leather trim, it’s a nice accent to make the hat a bit more chic.

Jewelry.  I followed Kathleen’s lead and chose a shell necklace to keep with the beach theme.  Want something a bit more sophisticated?  Brinker & Eliza has a collar necklace that is an absolute showstopper.  Add a pair of chunky gold hoops, and call it a day.

This outfit is so happy and peaceful; love it! I feel nostalgia for summer nights at the beach already.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
