The Find: Pull-On Work Pants

Mar 8, 2022

Can you imagine 2010 Abra (or Belle, as it were) talking about “pull-on” work pants?  She would be aghast.

But 2010 Abra wasn’t working 2.5 jobs, in a post-pandemic world while growing a human baby.  So her opinion is (mostly) irrelevant to me.

I have two weeks (maybe) in my current work pants.  So I couldn’t have found these wide leg pull-on trousers from Halogen, with a real waist band at a better time.  I can’t wait until they get here. And since they’re Nordstrom, free hemming at any store.

Sold out in your size?  These Alfani pants are very similar, also in plus.  And, of course, the NYDJ pants that I already bought (and loved), but that won’t fit by April.

I am ordering these ASAP! They look super-comf!

I discovered the Jamie pant from J Crew Factory when I was pregnant and they also were a great transition to post-partum. Very similar waistband as the Halogen trousers.

Amazing! Your opening paragraph made me literally lol 😉 Sadly they’re sold out in black in my size.

(Disclaimer that everyone’s shape changes differently during pregnancy, so maybe not relevant to all!) I’m tall with a long torso, and I found belly bands like this gave me a few more weeks in regular pants before having to buy maternity pants – I can’t find the exact one I ordered, but basically, the stretchy fabric lets you skip zipping/buttoning non-maternity pants and provides extra coverage for when your shirt rides up a bit.

So funny how shapes can differ – my tall long-torsoed sister swore by the unbuttoned pants and belly band and various button extenders, and I thought I’d do the same thing, but even though I am taller and have an even longer torso, I carried so low that I couldn’t zip my pants enough to get them to stay up, so I was in maternity pants quick. I bought secondhand A-line skirts a couple sizes too big and then wore the belly band over the top of them to make them look for fitted/flattering.

Also, I wore maternity pants for a couple months when I went back to work after maternity leave. It would have been longer except I had an epiphany that I should just buy new pants that were comfortable and fit me at that time. My point being, you may wear maternity pants longer than just a couple months while you’re pregnant, and it’s important to have comfortable pants.

      • AJT says:

Diane, that’s a genius idea to wear belly bands over a skirt!

And yes, really good point about wearing maternity pants postpartum. I resisted making the switch earlier in pregnancy without knowing or realizing that my maternity clothes would be useful once the baby came out too 😉

  3. Sharon says:

I tried on many, many maternity dress pants and the ones from Seraphine were by far my favorite. I found great deals on gently used pairs on Poshmark, just be sure to check the inseam measurements as previous seasons may be different lengths.

  4. Laura says:

Once you start wearing maternity pants, you’ll regret not doing it earlier. Stretchy waistband that goes all the way up to my boobs? Um, yes please.

  5. A says:

Maternity pants were one of the few things I liked about being pregnant. Highly highly recommend making the jump into maternity pants and enjoying the comfort!

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
