Full-Price Finds: The Day-to-Night Dress

Nov 4, 2021

A few weeks ago, I began the long process of trying on the items in my closet and parting with the ones that no longer fit.  And it’s left quite a list of pieces that need replacing, and one of those was my day-to-night black dress.

The day-to-night dress is an important part of your wardrobe if you work in government, or any industry where receptions and fundraisers are part of the job.  And having one at the ready means that you can dress for an event (even a last-minute one) with confidence.

This Joanna Dress from MM LaFleur is perfect.  It’s fitted, simple, a clean foundation to build upon.  And the leg slit gives you a little something extra without ruining the professional look.

When I bought this dress, it arrived on a day where I basically felt like trash.  Work was a mess. I hadn’t seen a gym in weeks.  And my emotions were all over.  I put it on, and I felt like myself again.  It was like a miracle.  I have worn it twice, and I felt like that both times.

For daytime, I like it with black enamel huggie hoops, tights, and sock boots.  It would also be nice with a ladylike jacket.

For evening, pump up the earrings.  Add a slinky stiletto sandal.  Close it out with a cool box clutch, and a killer lipstick.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
