Happy Hour: Pumpkin Pie Alternatives

Oct 29, 2021

Pumpkin desserts are a Thanksgiving staple.  There are many different pumpkin pie recipes — this Brown Sugar Gingersnap Pumpkin Pie or baking a simple meringue for the top of your pie — but what if you want to skip the pie altogether?

This Pumpkin Layer Cake comes with a delicious, but not too sweet, mascarpone frosting.  I’ve made a similar frosting for another cake, and even people who don’t like dessert seem to like this frosting.  I also recommend these Pumpkin Bars for a kid-friendly option.

Have dinner guests who don’t like pumpkin?  Food Network has some dessert options that you should check out.

Every ThanksgivingI suggest wrap dresses for dinner attire.  Why?  Because wrap dresses look nice, are comfortable, and they’re adjustable.  Perfect for a day of eating and lounging.  And if there was on store that could fill your closet with chic, affordable wrap dresses, it’s Nordstrom Rack.

This dress from Love by Design can be tied in the front or the back.  It also comes in several colors and prints; I love the eggplant. Sizes run small to XL.

Other options that caught my eye include this Velvet Torch dress in a bold yellow, this rust-colored satin wrap dress, and this deep green short-sleeve wrap dress.  Plus-size?  I love this blue-and-black print.

I recently ordered the Love by Design dress from Nordstrom Rack and be warned- it runs very large! I’m usually between a medium and large and the large could’ve fit 2 of me. I didn’t end up reordering in a smaller size, but I liked the dress generally. Just a warning on the sizing!

That dress reminds me of what Kate Middleton wore in her engagement announcement interview with Prince William! BTW, I love when you posted baking info!
