Monday Outfit: Simple in Black

Oct 4, 2021

My work from home style needs to be easy, as easy as leggings and a t-shirt.  Because if it’s not easy, I’ll just stay in my pajamas until noon.  And getting up and getting dressed in the morning is one of the ways I keep my mind at work, when I’m at home.

Today’s look is from French Tuck, a style blog that recreates fashion inspiration from Paris.  This outfit is a classic, simple black pants and a black sweater, paired with a toe-cap flat.  Let’s recreate it for today’s work from home office.

Sweater // The inspiration image includes a simple black crewneck sweater.  I wanted something a bit more relaxed, since comfort is at a premium these days.  This Eileen Fisher sweater with raglan sleeves is basically a fancy sweatshirt.  EF also makes a merino wool version (available in plus-size).  I also really like this Splendid Flynn sweater for something under-$120.

Pants // Spanx makes a line of pants, which are fantastic when you need something that looks like work and feels like leggings.  These are their Perfect Pant in the ankle-length 4 pocket.  They also make a straight leg version and a flare leg version.

Shoes // Toe-cap flats are a great option if you need a shoe that can be worn with almost anything.  This pair from ASOS is under-$25, and comes in sizes 4-11.  If you want a fashion forward pair, these twisted mules from Aquazurra are amazing.

Bracelets // I decided to skip the watch; mine hasn’t left the drawer since 2019.  Instead, I chose this cable twist bracelet from Nordstrom Rack and the idiom bangle from Kate Spade.  Want something that won’t jingle on the desk when you type?  Try these stretch bracelets with small beads.

Nail Polish // This Deborah Lippmann Modern Love nail polish is a mauve with hints of beige, it’s the slightly moody cold-weather alternative to pale pink.

The stretch bracelets with small beads link takes me to the Kate Spade idiom bangle. Can you please correct this? Thanks!

I love this outfit. I think it would take my SAHM leggings up a notch…planning to try to recreate it in Navy or a charcoal color!

THank you for this! I have to go to the office for the first time in 18 mos and am stumped on what to wear – I am going to throw this outfit on; bring a jacket and call it a day!

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
