Back to Basics: The Undergarments that I Buy Again and Again

Jul 22, 2021

Wednesdays.  Life always seems to fall to hell on Wednesdays.  Everything I didn’t get done last week mixes with everything I have to do this week, and by Wednesday, I am out of time to write the blog or the newsletter and do my job.  Then, I buckle down on Wednesday night (usually) and by Thursday, everything is back on track (more or less) again.

Do you ever experience this mid-week rush?  It can’t be just me.  Gosh, I hope it’s not just me. ????

Last week, we talked about basic pieces that can fill your work wardrobe, but what about the things you wear under those clothes.  I’m still trying to find a replacement for my every day bra (I won’t buy Third Love bras after they refused to even address reports of a toxic workplace), but underwear, I have those covered.

Hanky Panky Thongs // These are my daily driver underwear.  I love the style.  I find them to be the most comfortable thong I’ve ever worn, and I like that they now make an Eco Cotton Low Rider in their signature style.  I also sleep in their lace boy shorts.  And when I’m concerned about panty line, I wear their Bare Thong.  Need plus-sizes?  They now offer inclusive sizing.

Knix Period Underwear // Knix are a game changer.  If I can’t change a tampon because a meeting ran long, I’m covered.  On that last day of my period, when I’m pretty sure you don’t need coverage, but not entirely sure, I’m covered.  When fertility treatments makes things happen downstairs that I wasn’t anticipating, I’m covered.

I like these underwear because they don’t feel heavy.  I also like that they wash up well.  Their period underwear is the best.  I like their thongs and cheeky underwear.  Don’t miss out on their other products, including incontinence underwear.

The Knix undies sound intriguing. Menopause comes with its own delights in the “things happen downstairs that I wasn’t anticipating” department, so extra insurance/assurance is always welcome.

I admire Gillian Anderson’s stance on this: “’I don’t wear a bra anymore. I can’t wear a bra. I’m sorry,’” she said in a recent Instagram Live. “’I don’t care if my breasts reach my belly button. I’m not wearing a bra, it’s just too f*cking uncomfortable.’” But I’m a 32F and bralessness is a little too much freedom on a daily basis. . . Any experience with Knix bras?

As a 38I I can’t say enough good things about cosabella’s curvy line (designed for small band large cup). I wouldn’t go running in them, and probably not to my fairly formal office in them, but definitely good for WFH, running errands, general life living.

As a fellow large chested woman (34G), I cannot recommend Freya bras (and bathing suits) enough. They’re pricey, but worth it. They provide actual support, have a variety of different styles, and are comfortable.

No, I haven’t tried the bras. If you do, come back and let us know.

I have also been on the hunt for a Third Love replacement (I think I bought and returned $1200 worth of bras!), and Knix has become my replacement! They’re great, and I would venture to say they are more comfortable and fit better than Third Love, especially with my new COVID body (aka stress eating weight). I took a trip a few weeks ago and wore the Knix bras all day and they were as comfortable as a bralette. Highly recommend!

I recently started wearing bras from Lane Bryant (36DDD) since I put on a little weight during the pandemic and my old bras don’t fit. I find them very comfortable, reasonably priced, and they seem to have a wide variety of sizes.

For women who prefer thongs but require high rise (especially postpartum women!) – I highly recommend lululemon’s mid rise thong. Very comfy and is NOT nylon like so many stretchy thongs.

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
