The Find: A Lifesaver Dress

Jun 23, 2021

Last week, I ran into an outfit conundrum.  It’s the middle of the day, and I’m still in my gym clothes, when my phone rings.  And 30-seconds later, I am rushing to find an outfit that is meeting appropriate, while spraying dry shampoo into my hair and rushing out the door.

So what outfit do I reach for in hectic times when you need a great dress in a hurry?  This one.

Karen Kane’s Cascade Faux Wrap Dress is a fault-free dress.  The shape is incredible flattering, but still professional.  It looks good fresh from the dry cleaner or from the bottom of a suitcase. And it’s comfortable, so you never feel constrained.  The dress also comes in plus-size.

I’ve talked about this dress before, but it has saved me so many times.  When I don’t know what else to wear, this Karen Kane dress and the MM LaFleur Emily dress are my go-tos.  And, in the post-pandemic world, there aren’t a lot of work clothes being produced, so they are getting a lot of wear.

You did not mention it but this Karen Kane dress is made in the USA!

  2. SC says:

What a great-looking dress! A faux-wrap is on my to-sew list — I can’t wear actual wrap dresses here because it’s too windy, LOL.

  3. RKT says:

I have this dress in several colors and I absolutely support Abra’s assessment of it. Pre-covid, I took it with me to conferences because it’s incredibly comfortable, packs beautifully, and can be dressed for day or night, as well as up or down. I wish it came in more colors/patterns – they offer them from time to time, but they usually sell out and don’t get re-stocked.
They do have a red one on the Nordstrom and Karen Kane website:

    Amazon sometimes has other colors.

I also have a medical condition that can make stiffer clothing uncomfortable, and this dress is one I can always wear.

  4. Emily says:

Those are some great deals on the MML Emily dress. I bought the claret color at their last big sale. What necklaces would work with the unique neckline? For that matter, would you wear a long necklace with this KK dress?

    • Belle says:

I would wear a shorter necklace, pendant style.

Also, I don’t usually wear a necklace with my Emily dresses, I think the square neck on its own.

  5. Sheryl says:

Absolutely love this dress, have it 2 colors and they are wardrobe workhorses.
I just got lark and ro classic wrap dress, which is much less and has a similar flattering waist/hip tie. I’m pear shaped and small busted, and it flatters my hips and does not gape (much) at the chest.

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
