The Find: The Best Pants for WFH Transition

Mar 18, 2021

In the history of this blog, I don’t believe that I have ever promoted the same item in the same week.  But these pants are so good, it is my duty to lavish them with praise.

Last night, I came home from a 12-hour day, and prepared for four more hours of attending non-optional, post-work events.  My feet hurt.  My dress pinched.  All I wanted was a flat shoe and a legging.  But I still needed to look professional.

As I stood in my closet, staring at a pile of nothing to wear, I had an ah-ha moment: The pants!

The Skyline II pants from Athleta mix style and function to create the perfect pant.

The style — with a paper bag waist and a straight leg — makes them chic. Tuck in a shirt, and you wouldn’t know that they’re not a work trouser.

The fabric is light and comfortable.  It resists wrinkles and staining.  I wish it was a bit heavier, but the lightness contributes to the comfort and flexibility, so I’m willing to overlook it.

The pant also comes in plus-size, tall, and petite.  As for what size you should buy, they run a little large.  Their size guide says I should be a 6.  I bought a 4.  They fit perfectly.  So size down.

As for length, I am 5’7″ with a 30″ inseam.  I bought the regular size, and they’re top of ankle length.  I’m happy with them, but figure out what length your favorite ankle length jeans are, check the fit guide, and adjust accordingly.

I intend to wear these pants with a blouse and jacket to work on Saturday.  I intend to wear them on weekends with a tee and a long cardigan.  And I intend to wear them when I travel, whenever that starts up again. I love them so much, I bought two more colors.

I ordered these last week in Athleta’s sale and can’t wait to try them!! I’m hoping they’ll help make the back-to-the-office transition later this year more bearable… I’ve been living in leggings + Zoom tops for too long.

I have never purchased one of your recommendations more quickly! I have been loathing getting dressed up – dresses seem like too much for my office right now and I can’t bear the thought of dress pants. These look perfect.

I got them too! Would love to see some styling recommendations 🙂

I also purchased on your recommendation and am looking forward to trying them!

I also immediately ordered! Thank you!

Consider me influenced, I ordered 2 pairs and cannot wait to try them on. I am stuck in running shoes (not cute sneakers like Vejas, but asics running shoes) for the foreseeable future due to the lingering effects from a broken foot. I am now searching high and low for pants and outfits I can pass off as “classic,” while still wearing my asics. I’m hoping these help fuel my style confidence again!

Sloane loves the pool. She jumps from the deck into the water with a crash, never considering her own safety, only to emerge on the surface, shouting “Again!” The pool is my daughter’s happy place. But no place where I need to wear a swimsuit in public is a happy one for me.

The Mondays: July 22, 2024

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
