The Find: Athleta’s Seasonal Sale

Mar 11, 2021

When I went back to work in January, I was so tired of wearing leggings every day.  I wanted to wear “real” clothes again.  But now that I’m out of my trusty Spandex, there are moments where I wish I could be that comfortable at work.

So on Friday nights, when I get home and put on my leggings, it feels like such a joy.  Luckily, Athleta is having an end-of-season sale on some of their most popular items.  And if you haven’t been to Athleta in a bit, you might be surprised to learn that they make blazers, pants and sweaters that you could even wear to the office.

Charcoal Heather Blazer ($99)

First thing, yes, the reviewers are right: this blazer runs small, size up.  Second, when you get the right size, you will love it.  It is the perfect throw on blazer.  Unlike a sweater blazer, it has a tailored look.  Unlike a traditional blazer, it’s super comfortable to wear.  If you have to travel in work clothes, this.is.your.blazer.

Spirit Cashmere Cardigan

Wasn’t sure I would wear a dark brown sweater.  But I put this on over all black one day, sublime.  And because of the relaxed drape, you can wear it casually or to the office.

Skyline Pant II

Everyone who has read this blog for more than 10-minutes knows that if I am recommending a pair of pants, buy them.  I hate pants, so when I find a pair that I want to wear, they must be special.  And 550+ reviewers agree with me.

These paper bag waist pants look professional, but fit like a relaxed pair of joggers.  I tuck a blouse into them, throw on a long cardigan and go about my life.  They are my, “Please don’t make me go to work today” pants.  They run XXS to 3X.

Stellar Trouser

I promised my friend, A, that I would post these pants.  They’re her favorites and hundreds of reviewers agree.  If you like a slim-leg trouser, try these ones out STAT.

Like I said, you might not think about Athleta for workwear, but if you need a few pieces to get you through, try them out.  Those Skyline pants are my new feel good work pants.

+1 for the Skyline pants. And they are super stretchy and forgivable, so even as my pant size has gone up the past year they still fit!

Sizing on matching pants: do the Venice heathered pintuck pants also run small? Any other sizing tips on the pants?

I really recommend checking the reviews. They were right on the money with the paper bag pants

Good idea. Why didn’t I think of that? I just read the sizing comments for the jacket and pants, and my conclusion is that I will pass for now. Virus numbers are still high where we live, and we are still not vaccinated. So no in-store trying on and no trips to the post office to return. Maybe next time. Thanks for the idea.

I just bought the Skyline pants in anticipation of returning to the office! Would love ideas for the types of tops to wear with them.

  4. Nicole Hart says:

As directed, I bought the skyline pants!! 😉

Any chance you’d do a “two ways” on how to style them? Thanks, as always, for steering us in the right direction!

  5. Whitney says:

Co-sign for the Skyline pants! They’re so comfy and I wore them to the office last spring before the shutdowns. They can run a little small through the calf if you have more muscle there, but it’s easy to size up since you can cinch the waste. Just a really great pant.

  6. Amanda Komuro says:

Another YES! for the Skyline pant. I have the first version, just ordered another pair in navy. They’re insanely comfortable. I just wore the same pair until I was 8 months pregnant, that’s how forgiving they are. They do run a little big, as the reviews say. Size down.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
