The Find: Soko Jewelry

Jan 26, 2021

Soko is a “woman led,” ethical jewelry brand that partners with artisans in Kenya to make a line that is both architectural and stylish.  Soko jewelry is never fussy or complicated.  It’s sleek and modern, but still incredibly feminine.  So you can look good for a good cause.

This Soko Neema pendant has a nested, delicate look.  I love the clean shape and simple design.  Soko also makes this drop-style pendant and this long, delicate pendant that it truly fantastic.

Other pieces that caught my eye include this mixed-metal ring stack.  Wear the rings together or separately, on the same finger or different ones.  I also like these mini-horn hoops that have an interesting texture and color.

I heard about the Soko brand at a conference a few years ago, and I love the mission.  I also really like the mid-price jewelry that looks more expensive than it is and is incredibly well-made.

Oh, this line is totally up my alley – thank you for posting about it.

Sourcing ethical gold is complicated. Illegal gold mining is a major challenge in Peru and elsewhere. For anyone interested in the topic, check out the Miami Herald series “Dirty gold, clean cash.” https://www.miamiherald.com/news/local/community/miami-dade/article194187699.html

Eliminating the lucrative problem of illegal gold mining isn’t as easy as not buying gold jewelry because gold is used in cell phones, etc. I recommend asking jewelers how they ensure their gold is ethically sourced so retailers know this is important to customers. If you can, consider buying secondhand gold jewelry rather than new.

I own several pairs of earrings from Soko and they are my favorites. They never irritate my normally sensitive ears and they can be classic or edgy depending on the rest of your outfit. Highly recommend!

Love this! To everyone else: if you feel so inclined and they have an online store, check local boutiques and see if they carry Soko. There’s one near me that does and they have a different selection than Shopbop.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
