Monday Outfit: Crisp White for Winter

Jan 25, 2021

Last Friday, I was leaving a meeting when I spotted someone wearing a better outfit than mine.  In D.C., this would not be abnormal.  In Montana, it’s not something that happens often.  So I decided to recreate the outfit here using a photo of a similar outfit found on Pinterest.

Because as great as the outfit was, chasing a woman through the halls of the Capitol asking to snap a photo probably isn’t going to reflect well on my job performance.

When I spotted this outfit, it felt so fresh.  I loved the mix of neutrals and how it looked casual but also sophisticated.  I was totally smitten with the whole look.  Here’s how to recreate it.

Cardigan // The darker camel cardigan is what makes the outfit appropriate for cold weather.  It’s chunky and cozy, and so chic.

I chose this H&M cardigan because the shape and drape were fantastic.  It comes in a handful of colors and is very affordable.  If you like a drape front cardigan, this Susan Graver cardigan is an affordable option that also comes in plus-size.  Want a splurge option?  Hit up this Frame cardigan.

Blouse // The blouse is what makes this a semi-casual Friday outfit.  The woman I saw was wearing a regular tie neck blouse, but I loved this Express blouse with tie wrists so much.  I actually ordered two (ivory and black) for myself.  I can’t wait for them to get here.  I also loved the dramatic neck on this discounted Theory blouse.

Plus-size? 1.State has a tie neck blouse that is a nice basic.

Jeans // White denim is one of those fashion items that some people love and some people hate.  The key is that you need to find the specific pair you love.  Me, I like a thicker jean, so it’s not see through.  I like a little bit of stretch.  And I like an ankle length, because I’m too lazy to have them hemmed.

My favorite are the NYDJ Marilyn straight leg jeans (also in petite).  For a skinny jean, I recommend NYDJ’s Ami jeans.  Plus-size?  Nordstrom has you covered, they also have a limited petite-plus selection.

Boots // I love the darker leather boot here.  It really lifted the whole outfit.  This pair from Madewell is a great basic and the block heel keeps them comfortable to walk in.  For wider feet, I also like this Blondo pair in suede.

Own suede boots and want to keep them looking great?  I like this Jason Markk protect spray for keeping suede safe.

Jewelry // I chose a pearl hoop earring and this very pretty AllSaints pendant.  I always love a pendant with a v-neck blouse.  Want to reverse the look?  This Talbot’s pendant is pretty fantastic, and I love these knotted hoops.

Styling // The wearer of this outfit had a great high ponytail that really gave the outfit a relaxed feel.  Check out this smart hack for getting a voluminous and glamorous high ponytail.

For the makeup, I like a rosy cheek with a nude-to-you lip.  Lipstick Queen has a wide range of “nude” colors that all have a little more tint to them.

Love this outfit, never wear my white jeans in the winter. I will be looking at the long cardigans.

I really hope that the mysterious woman who wore the outfit is a reader of the blog. That would be amazing.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
