Monday Outfit: WFH in Faux Leather Leggings

Jan 18, 2021

In the beginning, working from home was great.  Wearing leggings instead of pencil skirts and slippers instead of heels was liberating.  But as we enter month ll of working from home, it’s feeling a little stale.

This outfit from My Kind of Sweet spices up the work from home outfit a bit with a pair of faux-leather leggings.  The outfit feels relaxed, but fresh.  It’s also perfectly pulled together.  Here’s how to build it.

Leggings // I’ve seen several posts comparing Commando faux leather leggings and Spanx faux leather leggings.  I own the Spanx leggings, and I like the wide waistband but the finish wears off over time.  Several of my favorite bloggers prefer the Commando leggings, so I featured those here.  They also come in plus-size.

T-Shirt // This Daily Ritual long sleeve shirt-tail hem t-shirt is a great choice to wear with leggings.  The weight and length make it perfect for layering.  It is definitely a wardrobe staple.  It comes in 11 colors, so you’re guaranteed to find the one you need.

I also like Free People’s mock neck tunic, and this Chico’s pima cotton tunic.  Plus-size?  Try this Isaac Mizrahi top.

Cardigan // I had a tough time finding a duster with a shorter sleeve.  So for the collage, I chose this fine ribbed oatmeal cardigan from Express.  For something lighter, check out this eyelet cardigan from Goodnight Macaroon.

Prefer the short sleeve look?  The closest thing I found to the inspiration image is this QVC dolman sleeve cardigan in oatmeal.  This Cupcakes & Cashmere dolman cardigan in heather grey is also very similar.

Slippers // Yes, you bet I posted the slippers.  How I miss my Ugg slippers after I’ve done 10,000 steps in high heels before 3:00PM.  I’m trying to decide if the pandemic can justify wearing my slippers with my business suits, but I’m not optimistic.

Not into the slippers?  Try these Adidas Cloudfoam sneakers.  Or spice up the outfit for out of the house wear with a pair of black ankle boots.  I like this pair from & Other Stories and this flat, fashion forward pair from FitFlop.

Accessories // This simple “open flower” pendant necklace is a great basic.  I also like this Kate Spade initial pendant and this Kendra Scott pendant.  They’re all great choices for every day wear.

As for the earrings, these claw huggies from Missoma are fabulous.  I own the pave version, and their simple version are on my list now.  Want the look of wearing two earrings in one?  These double claw studs are worth a look.

Lastly, I added these blue-light reducing glasses from Amazon.  I prefer this pair from The Book Club for their clear frames, but the Amazon glasses are two for $15, so there’s that.

I didn’t realize how much I loved this look until I realized I had opened literally all the links because they are all things I want. Right down to the blue-light blocking glasses.
Also, I think she is wearing a cape in the inspo – another thing I’ve been looking to add to my wardrobe!

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
