The Find: An Oversized Lounging Sweater

Nov 24, 2020

I promised that I wouldn’t post about my favorite Free People Ottoman Sweater again in 2020.  Sure, I own the sweater in five colors.  Sure, I wear them multiple times per week.  And sure, I tell everyone I know how much they need one (or three).  But a promise is a promise.

Luckily, this post isn’t about the Free People sweater.  It’s about a <$40 sweater that looks very similar.  Totally different.

I told you this Anrabess Sweater was similar.  When I saw it, I honestly thought Free People had come up with some new colors.

So did I buy one?  You bet I did.  This navy, slate blue color above is now mine.  The material is a bit different, but actually a little softer.  The swingy shape is nearly identical.  And the overall look is exactly what I’m looking for.

The size guide for this item is a little odd, but accurate.  Size XS, for example, is for size 2-6.  Size S is for 4-8.  Translation, if you are a size 4 and want the sweater to be oversize, choose a S.  A little slimmer, choose an XS.  Sizes run up to 22.

Thank you for posting the sizing info! I almost pulled the trigger just the other day and now will.

You def influenced me on the free people one! How does the collar stand up on this one? I’ve really been wanting a second color but can’t justify the cost…. this may be the perfect solution!

Also, Carly is posting her week of outfits and I’ve loved it. We’d love to see your outfits in the legislature!

Have you washed this sweater yet? The Free People sweater washes so well, no pilling and doesn’t lose its shape at all. I ordered this last week after seeing it on the newsletter, but was considering returning because it doesn’t seem like it will was as well due to the softer material. Would love to know your thoughts!

Also, on sizing, I have a small in the Free People, but preferred the M in the Amazon sizing. (The small hit my hips at a weird length – I’m 5-8 if that helps).

  4. Kim says:

What color did you end up buying? The navy blue looks a bit muted in the photos, trying to figure out if it may be more of a true navy in person.

I also ordered this. I am a solid size 6 and I felt the small was swimming on me. Same as the Free People, but just too much to be flattering. Ordered an XS so we’ll see. The material is thinner, and the neck stands up nice, but I do wonder at it’s ability to stay up over time. The quality is a little less, but the price is a lot less. I would not personally wear this way oversized sweater out in public because I don’t think it’s exceptionally flattering on me, but for a stay at home sweater for myself it is totally worth it.

I ordered the berry colored Amazon sweater in XS (normally size 4-6 in tops) and am wearing it today. (Also have the FP sweater in two colors.) The heft, understandably, is not the same as the FP sweater. I can wear the FP sweater without a jacket when it gets cold in SoCal (mid-50s). Can’t say the same for this Amazon sweater. That being said, I like the Amazon sweater and its price. I went out for a coffee today and wore the sweater with leggings, and it worked great for me. I love the oversized exaggeration of the sweater. It may not last as long but I can get more fun colors, which I feel more hesitant to buy with the FP sweater given the cost. Overall, great buy for me.

I ordered the sweater with optimism even though I figured it was completely wrong for my body type. I’m 5’1 and very busty. I’m a size 14 and ordered a medium. The sweater is giant and hung off my boobs so that it looked like a cropped muumuu or a pup tent! It went back to Amazon the next day!

  8. L says:

I also own MANY colors of the FP sweater. Love it.

Ordered this one in tan bc I like lighter colors but don’t trust myself with something expensive. It’s… fine. It’s a bit itchy and def doesn’t give that “warm hug” feel that I love about the FP ones. Silhouette and look is really similar if that’s all you’re looking for. I’m probably going to give it away because these days since people don’t see me very often I just re-wear things that are super comfy.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
