Get the Look: The Perfect Casual Friday Look

Oct 19, 2020

Sometimes, I spot a look on Instagram, and I just have to recreate it.  It’s that moment where my mind says, “That, need that.”  This outfit, with its mix of feminine lace and wool, is just such a look.

Wear and When Blog is a great Instagram follow.  Some of her looks are dramatic and fashion forward, but it’s her relaxed looks that I like best.  And this outfit, with a simple camel blazer and a cool lace blouse, is worth your time.

Blazer// My favorite J.Crew Regent Blazer (on deep discount today only) was the only pick for this spot.  Top 2019 purchase, and a must have for any working woman.  Runs into size 24, petite and tall also available.

Looking for a slouchier blazer?  Try this Boyfriend blazer from COS. Or breakout the J.Crew sweater blazer and really embrace that fall look.

Top // Instead of a wider weave lace, I chose this bohemian Joie blouse.  I think the floral texture on the cotton voile is just a little easier to wear in the daytime or to the office.

If you prefer the lace, my first, a-number-one choice is this gorgeous Ralph Lauren blouse with the pleated cuffs.  It’s wonderful, and <$75.  Second choice would be this blogger-favorite blouse from WAYF.  Plus-size?  This Sydney lace top is fab.

Jeans // The raw hem jean is a more refined alternative to the knees-out, distressed jean.  These Wit & Wisdom jeans (also in petite) are a great option at <$70.  They also have a front panel that keeps them comfortable while slimming a bit.  Plus-size?  Try these jeans from Poetic Justice.

Bag // This top handle tote from Maison Heritage is a steal.  The lack of embellishment and chic hardware make it a nice option for work.  It’s selling out quickly, so if you want it, don’t sleep on it.  The same bag is available in hard-to-find navy, so if you’re in the market for a navy tote, this is the one.

Shoes // Cole Haan has spent years creating shoes that are comfortable and chic.  Their Grand Ambition collection is perfect for city dwellers and Hill staff who need to be able to walk long distances.  These jaguar-print flats are one of my favorite options from their line.

They have several block-heels styles that are perfect for the office.  Or if you need a traditional high heel, they have you covered as well.

Accessories // These affordable freshwater pearl hoops look great on a Zoom call or in person.  And for the makeup, Charlotte Tillbury’s Superstar Lipstick gives you a glossier finish than her traditional pillow talk matte lip.  For the hair, I really like the way Wear and When has her styled in a center part, low bun.  If you need a tutorial for that style, Cosmo has a few tips for better-than-basic buns.  To spruce it up, these Kristin Ess French pins are worth your time.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
