Two Ways: The Essential Work Blouse

Jul 13, 2020

What are your wardrobe staples?  The pieces that you go back to again and again.  This Halogen blouse is the perfect basic for now and later on.  Let’s style it.

Halogen V-Neck Top (also in petite)

This v-neck blouse is an absolute classic.  It looks perfect under blouses and sweaters or on its own.  It’s not completely opaque, which is my only criticism.  But it’s not so sheer that I need a tank if I wear a nude bra.  And at under-$60, I recommend you buy two.

Need a sleeveless option?  This Tahari blouse is a great option.  Bar III has a great plus-size option in a nearly identical style.

Left Gibson Notch Blazer // Birdie’s Starling Loafers // 7 for All Mankind Jen7 Jeans // Madewell Linear Drops

Let’s talk about these jeans for a minute.  7 for All Mankind was the must have jean when I was in my teens and 20s.  Now that their original customer base is in their 40s, they’ve realized that some of us need a more sculpted jean.  These Jen7 jeans have panel built into the pockets to help sculpt and shape your rear view.  And did I mention their $99?  They also come in a flare leg.

This Gibson blazer was thoroughly discussed in last week’s post, but I wanted to show you another way to wear it.

Also worth highlighting are these earrings.  They’re under $15 and they’re the perfect mix of subtle and modern.  If you wear multiple ear piercings they look amazing paired with other studs or hoops.

Right J.Crew Vintage Straight Pant // Skinny Italian Leather Belt // Keri Woven Slides // Numbering Gold & Silver Hoops

These washed, lived-in chinos from J.Crew are so comfortable.  I bought a pair at the end-of-season sale last year, forgot about them, and then rediscovered them last week.  Oh lord, so easy to wear around the house with a blouse or a t-shirt.  I’m in between sizes, so I bought the larger size for a slightly relaxed fit, and they’re awesome.  They also come in petite and tall.

I don’t usually wear them with a belt, because I’m too lazy to dig one out under the current conditions.  However, this skinny belt from J.Crew is a really nice option.

Finally, I want to talk about these slide sandals from Talbot’s.  I spotted them on a friend via her Instastories, and they look far more expensive than their price point.  She assures me that they are far more comfortable than they look at first glance, and that they have replaced her slippers as her favorite WFH shoe.
