The Find: Is that a ‘Fanny Pack’?

Jun 22, 2020

Last week, a reader reached out via Instagram to ask a question about handbags.  She was looking for a ‘fanny pack’ style bag to wear while out with her kids because she “didn’t need one more thing to keep track of.”  And, amazingly, I found a belt bag that was perfect for her.

I did not think that I would be able to find a belt bag that I liked.  But lo and behold, there it is.  This Madewell Leather Belt Bag will hold a phone, small card case, keys and lip balm.  It’s simple, minimal, and stylish.  So if you need a hands-free bag, give this one a try.

Not feeling this bag?  I also found this chic Matt & Nat vegan leather bag with a built in card holder.  I also like this pebbled leather bag from Saks Off Fifth.

I can also vouch for the Dagne Dover belt bag. It’s neoprene, durable and holds quite a bit. The sturdiness helps when running around after kids on a playground. I have the blush color and it’s very versatile. 10/10 would recommend.

The Madewell bag doesn’t look like it will hold hand sanitizer> That seems to be a priority over lip balm these days!

Love these! I had been contemplating a “fanny pack” and this might be the push I need to go for it.

  4. Allison says:

These are surpringly chic. My preferred hands-free option is a small leather backpack.

Is anyone else getting a pop-up at the bottom of the webpage regarding cookies? Whenever I try to click “read more” it just navigates me back to the homepage and there’s no avenue to opt-out at all. Abra, any chance you can look into this?

    • Belle says:

The pop-up is required for GDPR, the European law on information collection. All websites are required to have it now. I don’t intentionally collect or use any information unless you leave a comment, then I have your email and IP address, which I don’t use for anything. But I’m told I have to have it regardless.

If you click accept, it will disappear. Read more just shows you more information on the policy itself.

      • anon says:

For me too, “Read More” just takes me back to the front page.

        • Belle says:

Yes, you have to click accept to make it go away.

          • Christine says:

The language of the banner is “This website uses cookies to improve your experience. We’ll assume you’re ok with this, but you can opt-out if you wish.” People need to be able to choose whether they consent. So there should be an option other than just clicking “accept” here for people that typically choose to opt-out of having their information stored. And the “read more” link should take people to an actual description of the policy and what information gets stored, instead of just navigating you back to the homepage. I know this disclaimer is a new addition to CHS but I think there are still some kinks to work out.

            • Belle says:

I didn’t choose the disclaimer. WordPress did. I’ll see if there’s another one, or a way to change them, but it came in with the new update.

              • neenS says:

FYI I am in Europe and the disclaimer reads: “We use cookies to ensure that we give you the best experience on our website. If you continue to use this site we will assume that you are happy with it.” And the only button option is “Ok”

                • Belle says:

The plugin was switched out, there are only three options, and all of them just have an accept option. WordPress says I can’t take it down, and there is no more detailed option.
