Tuesday Outfit: Casual Spring Neutrals

Apr 28, 2020

I’ve made an effort to “dress up” a few days each week — outfit, hair, makeup.  It’s not quite hot enough here for spring dresses yet, so I’ve been relying heavily on white denim.  This outfit is one of my favorites.

This look from Lilly Demello’s instagram blends a lightweight sweater with summery denim for an outfit that can survive the spring chill or the early breaths of air conditioning.  It’s a good outfit for today, and for September.

Jeans. Topshop Wide Leg Jeans ($60) //  If white denim is a bit precious for you, ecru denim is popular this season.  It’s a bit easier to wear.

Lilly is wearing a cropped pair, but (on my pear shape) I prefer a full-length option.  These Madewell straight cut ecru jeans (also in tall and petite) and these skinny Ann Taylor sculpting jeans also caught my eye.  Plus-size? Universal Thread has a pair of cream-colored jeans that fit the bill.

Sweater. Meraki Cotton Crewneck ($25) // This oatmeal sweater is such a steal!  100% cotton, well-constructed, and machine-washable.  A good buy.

Not feeling sweaters right now?  This ruffle sleeve blouse in oatmeal is a lovely choice.  I also love this dark-beige blouse from H&M (also in plus).

Sandals. Yuki Leopard Sandals ($60) // A leopard flat didn’t feel like the right choice for this outfit.  These simple leopard sandals come in this pale beige, a darker cognac, and black.  Choose the one that coordinates best with your summer essentials.

These Loeffler Randall knotted sandals are so gorgeous.  The cheetah Born sandals may not be as beautiful, but they are lovely and comfortable.  Or choose these simple, affordable Modcloth slides.

Handbag. Milly Astor Crossbody ($160) // I wanted a little bit of color.  I considered this red bag, which would be beautiful, but this rose bag was a better fit.  I also like the details — the hardware, the tassel.  Prefer a tote?  Try this very affordable Nanette Lepore bag.

Sunglasses. Ray-Ban Aviators ($80) // Need sunglasses?  Nordstrom Rack has the best selection, and the prices are not to be missed.

Earrings. Chan Luu Pearl Hoop Earrings ($45) // These pearl hoops are to die for.  I love the simplicity.  They are so dainty and lovely.

    nice – casually elegant!

This is a lovely outfit. Asos has a couple of similar sandals (Frankie and Foxglove) in a wide fit.

This is just the inspiration I need right now – simple, easy to recreate and still “dressing up” (according to quarantine standards…). Currently pregnant so I’ll just size up in the sweater!

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
