The Find: Summer Campaign Shoes

Mar 10, 2020

I know that my numerical age is 37, but I don’t feel 37.  Unless I’ve been on my feet all day.  My ankles and arches are definitely 37.  And after 10 years of commuting via Metro, I try to baby my feet as much as possible.

So as I prepare for a summer of campaign stops — town halls, fundraisers, canvassing — I need to think about how my feet will feel first, and how my shoes look second.  So when I can find a good looking shoe that feels good, I am fully on board.

I’ve already shared these fabulous Cole Haan wedges, but today’s shoes are a bit more affordable.

Easy Spirit Leather Wedge Pump ($55)

Easy Spirit Snakeskin Wedges ($55)

Easy Spirit is known for its comfortable footwear.  These wedges have a padded footbed, good arch support, and a comfortable 1.5″ wedge.  They’re fairly flexible, and good bend is essential to breaking in shoes quickly.

These shoes come in size 6-11 medium.  Need wedges in wide widths?  Aerosoles has a fairly affordable pair that come in several colors, so does Naturalizer.  Narrow feet?  These Clarks wedges are nice, and these Trotters wedges come in lots of colors.

Ugh, I feel this too. I can wear heels, but if I’m on my feet too much they hurt!! Even low-cushion flats are getting tough.

The best tip I ever got about tired feet and campaigning was from an older staffer from back in the day when we actually walked door-to-door through neighborhoods distributing campaign literature. Pack an extra pair of nice but comfortable, well broken-in shoes to change into after lunch.
It was amazing how much better and even more energetic I felt after changing shoes, and the energy lasted the rest of the day. They didn’t have to be flats, just different comfortable shoes. Never failed me.

Thank you for including shoe choices for those of us with narrow feet! It is so hard to find shoes that fit that are also fashionable.

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
