Last Minute Valentine’s Day Gifts Under-$50

Feb 11, 2020

I’m never sure how I feel about Valentine’s Day.  Is it a lovely celebration of human connection or a fake holiday created by florists and greeting card companies?

As a woman who was unapologetically single for most of her adult life, I was glad when Galentine’s Day became a thing.  But as a married woman, it’s nice to get a thoughtful note from my husband once a year.

Despite my mixed feelings, I do love any reason to buy a cute gift for the people I care about.  So here are a few gift ideas for your best gal or your partner, all under-$50.

This Alex & Ani Ampersand Charm ($18) would make a lovely addition to a simple chain or bracelet.  It evokes a sense of togetherness without being too on the nose about it.

There are always a lot of great coffee mugs for sale for Valentine’s Day.  This Love Languages Mug ($7) was my favorite.  Add one of these heart-shaped cookies, called a mug buddy, and you have a really good gift.

Prefer something a little less lovey?  I adore the abstract print on this Deny Designs Waters Rising Mug.

If pajamas are played out, I always like a nice robe.  This floral printed one from Yumi Kim ($48) is a great option.  I also like this brighter pink print.  Or if you need something simple, I like this H&M waffle-robe, which I own and have nothing but good things to say about.

Glossier created mini-sizes of its best sellers and put them in a $50 set.  You can try all of the cult-brands best skincare products, including their Future Dew serum and Balm Dot Com lip treatment.  I also like this makeup set with a Cloud Paint blush, Boy Brow brow filler and mascara.

Last year, a co-worker gave her husband a fast-charging pad with a card that said, “You fully-charge my heart.”   Cheesy?  Yes.  Good gift?  Also, yes.  This one from iOttie looks great on a bedside table, charges almost any device, and comes in at $30.

I love loose leaf tea, but I HATE cleaning the infuser.  There are leaves everywhere and just a general mess.  Enter Tea Drops.

Their Sweetened Loose Leaf Tea Sampler ($16) and their individually wrapped party pack let you enjoy loose leaf tea without the mess.  You just drop the cubes into hot water and enjoy.  No infuser, no messy cleanup.  Praise the Lord.

They have a wide selection of teas for different tastes.  I like their Turmeric Tea when I have a cold.

Nora Ephron was right: I feel bad about my neck. As I move through my forties, the creases have turned into chasms. The skin sags like a pair of sweatpants with aging elastic. It’s not great. But it’s just a natural part of getting older. Over the past year, it feels like I’ve tried every […]
