The Find: A Simple Blouse

Oct 31, 2019

Sometimes you just need a blouse that you can throw on with jeans.  Or a pencil skirt.  Or a pair of comfortable trousers.  The kind of piece that you can blend in with any outfit.  And it’s even better if that piece costs <$50.

This NYDJ Henley 3/4 Sleeve Blouse has a look that can be casual or professional depending on how you style it.  The blouse comes in 23 colors and prints.  It also comes in petite sizes and plus-sizes.

The Henley cut is gives you the option of a split-neck or crewneck.  The neckline is flattering on a number of figures.  And the 3/4 sleeve lets you wear it in any season.

Want an easy casual outfit?  Jeans + the Henley + a long, chunky cardigan + leopard flats.

Looking for something for work?  The navy Henley + wide leg navy trousers + a notch-collar burgundy blazer + navy pumps

  2. Cindy says:

If anyone knows of a blouse this style, but in silk, please comment! looking to replace one in my wardrobe but it’s been impossible to find.

    • MOnica T says:

I have a silk top with a similar popover styling from J. Crew and it’s great! I’d definitely check there.

  3. Lauren says:

Anyone looking to buy that shirt should know it runs big – I tried it on the other day.

  4. BN says:

Wow thank you so much! I would never have found this on my own. REALLY appreciate extra sizes and the affordability. Buying two now.

  5. Alex says:

I have several silky (don’t think they are 100% silk) shirts in very similar cuts that I got from Stitch Fix! I was living overseas in a more conservative country, and asked for longer, loose-fitting shirts. They are great!

  6. Chelsea says:

I have a bunch of these in different colors – all $15-25 on Poshmark. Perfect with jeans, a skirt, and long enough for leggings.

  7. Jo says:

I love these blouses! I have several and wear them all year for work in my California business casual office. They do run large so definitely size down. I wash on delicate, hang to dry on a hanger, and they never wrinkle and last forever. They layer and tuck well and are easily found on Poshmark as well as Amazon at great prices.

I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Ask the Editor: Vol. IV, No. Eighteen

Before we start today’s reader questions, I wanted to take a moment to talk a bit about mental health. For those who experience mental health challenges — whether occasionally or frequently — talking about our struggles is a double-edged sword.
