The Find: The Perfect Sweatshirt

Oct 23, 2019

Years ago, I owned a cross-front sweater that was perfect for wearing over sheath dresses.  It also looked amazing with high-waist pants and skirts.  Then, it went to the dry cleaner and never came home.  I was never able to find a similar top, until last week.

The cross-front on this Core10 French Terry Sweatshirt is what makes it perfect for layering.  When you wear it over dresses, the slightly cropped length gives you a flatter look that’s sleeker than wearing it with a skirt.  I wore this top over a scallop trim sheath I bought at the end of summer and hadn’t worn yet (because it’s been really cold), and it was so cute.

The top comes in misses and plus-sizes.  It also comes in three colors.

I really adore this sweatshirt.  I’ll probably have to buy a second one.  I haven’t felt that way about an Amazon product since the striped Daily Ritual sweatshirt that I’m wearing at this very moment.  I’ve washed it hundreds of times, and it still looks great.

Athleta also makes a ton of cross-front tops and sweatshirts!

I have one of these cross top sweatshirts from Athleta and sadly it has not stood the test of time. It pilled badly after a few washes. I still wear it but not out in public.

I too have owned the Athleta cross front top and sadly had the same results. I am glad to find this alternative and at a better price point.

Isn’t it a mismatch with a sheath dress and a sweatshirt. One seems dressy and one casual? I think I’m missing something, but I like the idea!

    • Nologos says:

I agree – the logo on the back left side of the sweatshirt firmly puts this into athleisure territory and i don’t get the suggestion to pair it with a sheath dress. At least not a work sheath dress. Are there other kinds?

    • Belle says:

It’s not for your dressiest days, I like it for more casual days to extend a dress into another outfit.

Same. I have a burgundy crossfront like this, only it has cowl neck. Over a sheath dress is a wonderful business travel duo. Then I have the top for more casual but put-together outfits on my trips.

Every single time I wear it, I get compliments.

The link to the Daily Ritual sweatshirt leads to the Amazon Shopping Cart, not to the sweatshirt.

  5. Lauren says:

Abra, you’re killing it with the Amazon recommendations. I ordered the Kiko Milano eye makeup stick, loved it, and went back and immediately ordered two more colors. Loving this sweatshirt, and love the idea of it over a dress!

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
