I spotted this sweater dress on a woman walking through downtown and had to ask her where she bought it. She was wearing it over leather leggings with a cool boot and a hoop earring, and it was all of my rocker-chic dreams come to life. And did I mention that it’s under-$100?
The buttons on this River Island sweater dress are show-stopping. The dress comes in this olive green, a rusty brown, and a deep navy. As the photo suggests, the dress is a bit short, hitting about mid-thigh. So I would recommend wearing it with leggings during the day. If you want a feistier look for cocktails, I would wear it with a pair of suede over-the-knee boots.

I love sweater dresses over leggings! I need to try a leather (or faux leather) pair of leggings.
As an aside, as a child, my mom was always approaching strangers and asking about what they were wearing and where they got it. I was a shy child and was always so embarrassed when she did this. But now I recognize it as the compliment it is, and every now and then will see something that pushes me to ask someone where they got something 🙂
what is the quality of River Island clothing? Not familiar with this brand
What color was she wearing, the olive? I assume black leather leggings?
SUCH a cute find – thanks, Abra!
Any suggested faux-leather leggings? Tried a LOFT petite pair this week and they fit funny. I know the Spanx is the Holy Grail but would love a pair at a lower price point until I’m sure this is a “for me” look!
I would get the Spanx from Poshmark. Nothing really compares to them but buying them secondhand saves you money.
I’ve tried the Spanx and cannot recc them. They are too tight. Wanna a decent pair on the cheap? Hit up target. I kid you not they have a fully functional pair for like $11 that are JUST RIGHT for wearing under long sweaters. Not see thru. Not too tight. Just right.
I love Spanx’s faux-leather leggings and haven’t found them to be too tight. But, if you’re between sizes, do go for the larger size.
