The Range: Wide Leg Pants

Aug 26, 2019

When skinny pants came onto the scene in the mid-2000s, I wasn’t exactly an early adopter.  As a pear-shaped person, skinny pants weren’t my first choice.  But after a few seasons, skinny styles were pretty much all you could buy.  However, it appears those days are over, and wider leg openings are back.

I’d love to see a Two Ways on modern styling of wide-leg pants!

    • C says:

Ditto! It’s been so long since I’ve worn wide leg pants that I’ve forgotten how to style anything other than a skinny or straight cut. Would love to see wide leg pants updated for a business casual environment!

      • Colleen says:

Yes to the styling help with these! Last time around I wore them with super-pointy flats and slim, office-appropriate t-shirts.

    • Rebecca says:

Came here to say this also! I have a pair now but I am not quite confident when I reach for them yet.

  2. Sarah says:

Why are the Corner Office ones shown as so long? They look so wrong and will look even worse when totally torn up by the ground. Otherwise they look great.

    • Elizabeth says:

Ideally struggle with the length of the wide leg pant. How long are they supposed to be? Mine always feel too short…but then they hit the floor and are too long. ????

  3. Paige says:

I could not be happier about the return of the wide leg!

Will you please post a few options for some wide leg jeans? I know you’ve recommended the 7 Dojos in the past – anything made of a slightly softer denim that you’ve found? Or any reader recommendations on this? I’ve checked all the usual suspects and I’m finding so many wide leg, cropped options – I’m looking for full length for Fall. Thanks so much!

  4. Mara says:

Any tips on brands of pants that work well for pear-shapes (big butt and hips, small waist)? I know the typical solution is to buy pants that fit the hips and get the waist taken in by a tailor, but having had three separate pairs of pants ruined by three separate tailors (such a waste of money), I now only buy things that fit me off the rack.

    • SC says:

Fellow pear-shaped gal here — Ann Taylor LOFT Julie fit pants are the BEST. I wear a 10-12 and they fit wonderfully. No gaping waist, ever. I prefer the trouser style but they do skinny and straight cuts too. I’ve found the best deals on eBay.

  5. Ellen says:

loving this new trend! Any tips on making these work with flats? I just cannot wear heels anymore, but love this look.

  6. Caitlin says:

I don’t actually remember when wide cut pants were a thing (I was a child in the “bootcut” era and mostly found my style in the “skinny” era) and I have no idea how to wear or style them. I’m petite/short-legged and carry most of my weight in my thighs, so every pair I’ve ever tried on makes my bottom half look like a solid, huge block of wood, or like I’m trying out a pair of ugly “throwback: JNCOs. I also do carry some weight in my stomach so a super fitted top isn’t an option either. Help!

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
