It’s officially Countdown Week. In just six days, Kyle and I will be husband and wife. I still have a few things to do, but anything that’s not done by the time I get in the car on Wednesday afternoon is not getting done. At some point, you just have to call it.
Weddings, like so much of life, are a balance between wants and needs. When Kyle would ask if we really “needed” a videographer or a second cake or a stamp with our likenesses on it, I would be momentarily offended. But when you’re in the depths of planning, the lines blur.
This weekend, I found myself dropping $40 on express shipping for a welcome sign and decided right then that it was probably a good time to take a step back. Because when the cost of overnight postage no longer floors you, it’s time to re-evaluate.
The dresses are altered. The cakes are in production. The tent decor is in transit. My nearest and dearest are packing their bags, and the wedding, however it turns out, will be enough.
I would rather spend the next week focusing on my fiancé, my family and my friends. Because when else are you lucky enough to have most of the people you love in one place?
Long t-shirts can be difficult to find. This Amazon Essentials tee with a shirttail hem that is longer in back than front is a winner. It looks great with jeans or leggings layered under a shorter jacket.
Need long sleeves? LOFT has you covered in misses and plus-size. Looking for something similar in cotton? Madewell has the best option.
The third season of The Marvelous Mrs. Maisel is nearly upon us, and December 6th cannot get here soon enough. If you can’t wait either, you can watch the trailer, here. And if you haven’t watched this charming and funny show from the creator of Gilmore Girls, you can check it out on Amazon Prime.
Hair dried out from too much summer fun? I’ve talked about this Davines Spotlight Circle conditioner before, but it never hurts to rep a great product. This conditioner softens, repairs and adds shine. It’s also resealable, so you can get several uses out of a single pouch.
These Spicy Chicken Tacos with avocado and creamy cilantro sauce are an easy weeknight dinner. We prefer to grill the chicken in a special pan that is safe to use on the grill. It gives the chicken a slightly deeper flavor. We also add Trader Joe’s pickled jalapeños and diced mango as toppings; it just livens up the flavor a bit more.
This Evie Top from Boden is everything I’m looking for in a blouse. You can dress it up or down. It has a classic style with a little something extra. And it’s comfortable. Did I mention it’s also under $100?
I’d pair it with these phenomenal British tweed pants for a look that just screams early October. Or wear it right now with this navy ponte skirt with a bold fuchsia flare.

the wedding will be lovely, congrats to you and kyle!!!
I’m so excited for y’all! Remember to eat, and do your best to get enough sleep the night before. I hope it goes well, and any snafus are the sort that just become funny stories over the years. Congrats!
Wishing you a lifetime of happiness and love!! Can’t wait to see photos (hopefully you’ll share a few with us here!) All the best!
We lived by the motto “as long as we’re married by the end of day, everything went perfectly.” Congratulations as you head into your wedding – it will be lovely I am sure!
Congratulations!! What an exciting time. I hope the wedding is absolutely wonderful!
Just wanted to drop on here to say that I had a dream last night that you invited all of your readers to the wedding. You were wearing a beautiful blue gown (nontraditional! loved it!) and, inexplicably, a cowboy hat with a veil. I hope you have the most spectacular wedding day and enjoy every minute of it. Congratulations!
Love the cowboy hat and veil.
Good luck this week, I know your wedding will be beautiful! And at the end of the day, you’re marrying the person you love and that’s what matters.
Good luck this week, I’m sure your wedding will be everything you’ve hoped for and more 🙂
Make sure to take a few moments to soak it all in – it flies by so quickly.
So happy for you and Kyle!!
Just commenting in solidarity; my wedding is in five days, and whatever isn’t done by tomorrow isn’t happening. Congratulations!
Preach! Good luck to you too!
Don’t forget to delegate! Have an amazing day!
Congrats Abra! You’re nearing the end of wedding planning, then you’ll have the rest of your lives celebrating your marriage. I’m so happy for Kyle and you!
Welcome to the home stretch!! I think you’ve got just the right idea-sometimes you have to let go of a few things to make room for yourself to be in the moment with those you love.
I was the one who commented a few weeks back about the second wedding dress I had tailored in a fit of bridal mania. I was so wrapped up in the details of making everything perfect, but I realized that if I kept on that way I would be the only one at my wedding week not having any fun and that was just…unacceptable. “Calling it” was by far the kindest thing I could have done for myself and I hope it serves you just as well.
Huge congrats to you & Kyle as you start on this next chapter of your adventure! I can’t wait to hear about whatever details you choose to share with us.
