The Find: Summer Pajamas

Jun 13, 2019

Last winter, I finally listened to my friend Theresa and started wearing real pajamas.  It was life changing.  Getting ready for bed is now a soothing, cozy experience.  But, in summer, pajamas can be a little warm.

These Moonlight Short Pajamas ($55) are the summertime equivalent of my favorite winter pajamas.  Also in plus-size.  You can also try the Moonlight Nightshirt.

The cotton on these pajamas is incredibly soft.  They also wear well.  Mine have been washed a shocking number of times and they’re holding up well.

Love this! I haven’t worn real pajamas since I was in grade school. Might make me feel more human when I go to bed if I wear more than just a sports bra and a stretched out old T-shirt.

  2. A says:

I love these PJs (in the long and the short), but I will say for me they don’t wear great. I originally bought them post-partum as a treat and easy nursing PJs because of the buttons. Milk stains don’t come out of them super well without a lot of effort though. Kiddo is two now, and the jersey has a fair amount of pilling on it. I wash on cold permanent press and dry on low. The navy definitely hides the pilling better than the grey or pink ones I have. Still super soft and comfy, just not as pretty.

  3. Sarah says:

Target has an identical pajama set to this, with additional patterns. It probably isn’t as nice quality, but they’re super comfy and soft for half the price. That’s what I thought the photo was before I read the description!

    • Erin says:

+1 to Target pajamas that are *identical* to these for half the price. I have them in black/pink, in both long sleeve/pant and short sleeve/short options and they have worn wonderfully for more than 6 months.

      • Jules says:

I commented below about these! So glad to know yours have held up. I have enjoyed mine so far as and am definitely buying more.

can you please link to the Target PJs you have liked/recommend? Target’s website is hard to search (in my opinion). Thank you

  4. Rebecca says:

Minor quibble over the post: you said the fabric was cotton, but Nordstrom says it’s a modal/spandex blend. Modal and cotton come from different sources, and are different fabric, with different properties.

  5. Anna says:

I’m on the hunt for soft bike-style shorts to wear to bed. Pajama shorts always ride up and give me a wedgie and loose pants also ride up my leg so they’re up by knee after a few minutes in bed. I have a roommate so walking around in boyshorts isn’t an option. I’d love to be able to wear short/mid-thigh length shorts that were more skin tight, but not restrictive.

  6. Jules says:

I bought a pair identical to this at Target about a month and half ago, I can’t speak to their durability but at $20 I wouldn’t mind replacing them and am considering getting another pair and 2 of the sets with pants and just Marie Kondoing my whole mismatched PJ drawer.

There is something to be said for tucking into bed at night in a nice pair of “real” pajamas that feels a little extra luxurious than a hodgepodge of T-shirt’s.

  7. Xat says:

I sleep in underwear and only underwear. On the uncommon occasions I’m sharing a room with somebody who isn’t on mostly-nude terms with me, I’ll throw on a tank top and some soft loungewear shorts I bought from Target years ago. Maybe it’s time to get some cute official pajamas for those times.
I’ve never understood how nightgowns don’t end up bunched around the waist. People who wear them must sleep differently than I do.

  8. Me says:

I got sucked into an Instagram ad and ended up ordering a pair of Lake cotton pajamas. Pricey, but worth the indulgence.

  9. Jc says:

I love real pajamas for bed. Muji makes an amazingly soft cotton pair – it’s the only one I buy anymore!

The Find: Shirts That Don’t Gape

I remember when Rochelle Behrens launched The Shirt — a button-down blouse with anti-gape technology (a patented internal button that keeps the look smooth). The idea seemed brilliant, but at the time, my bust didn’t require an extra button. One baby later, I understand the need for some extra security.
