The Find: A Chic Top for Work

Mar 12, 2019

Classic shapes, neutral colors, pieces you will wear professionally and casually — these are the foundation of a good wardrobe.  So when you find a piece that checks all of the boxes, buy it.  At this price, you might buy two.

This Leith Button Detail Wrap Top ($69) is incredibly flattering.  It slims the waist, conceals a less-than-toned tummy, and flatters the bust.  It’s perfect under a blazer or solo.

Just one tip: if you’re between sizes, go up.  With a structured wrap, always size up when in doubts.  Too tight will flatter no one in this style.

Plus-size?  This comes in your range as well.  New to Leith?  It’s an in-house Nordstrom brand that takes a relaxed approach to work attire.  I also love this dotted midi skirt for spring, whenever that decides to arrive in Montana.  So…June.

Abra, do you think this top is on the more opaque side? Product details say the fabric is crepe, which makes me nervous. (I can’t see bra straps/outline on the model, but that doesn’t mean much!)

The plus sized version of the Leith skirt (which you need to search for separately from the link) is 40% off!

If anyone has found an actual opaque white blouse recently, I would love to know – it’s such a key basic, but every white top I’ve tried for years, with the exception of a ponte top that’s too casual for formal business wear, has been sheer and required a camisole. And I realize that look (w/ camisole) has become more accepted, but I just… don’t want to wear that to a formal, buttoned-up kind of meeting.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
