My Best Purchases: No. 12

Feb 26, 2019

A few weeks ago, I started cataloguing my Best Purchases Ever.  Somehow, I missed the best spring jacket that I have ever owned.  It’s a stylish basic that I reach for over and over again.  And it’s under-$100.

This LL. Bean Classic Utility Jacket ($99) is my everything.  It adds a relaxed chic to even the most basic outfit.  The high collar, slim shape, and drawstring, adjustable waist make it a flattering choice for almost any body type.

The jacket comes in six gorgeous colors.  I particularly love the olive as a starter option.  But there is a sleek charcoal grey, a chic navy, a basic khaki, a muted indigo, and my very favorite, a dusty mauve.  I wore my olive one so much last year, that I bought the indigo mauve this year.  A girl needs choices.

Best of all, the jacket has inclusive sizing.  You can find it in misses, petites, and plus.

You posted this a few years ago and I bought it – I have also loved it.

  2. MM says:

I already have an olive green utility jacket that I wear allll the time…maybe it’s time to add mauve to the rotation. That color is gorgeous!

  3. Carlie says:

Having gone to college in Maine, I am a big fan of LL Bean. I bought this jacket after you posted it this past fall and I love it! Great weight for early fall/spring (I live in Philadelphia), and very stylish, but low key

  4. Keilexandra says:

Wow, love that mauve color. Unfortunately the petite and plus sizes are only available in olive, but I’m still considering it…

  5. cARRIE says:

Can those that have purchased it please comment on sizing? I’m tricky to size so it’s very helpful to have “real life” info on sizing chosen based on height/weight/normal size. Love this jacket – I feel it’d be a springtime staple!!

    • Belle says:

5’6, 145, I bought a small. It is a little boxy, but when I pull the tie waist, it slims out quickly.

    • DCCP says:

I’m 5’8″ and 225 (usually a 16) and the XL is roomy on me. LL Bean generally runs quite large. Ditto what Abra said above about the drawstring.

  6. Amanda says:

Can you post some outfits featuring this jacket? I bought one but seem to have trouble putting outfits together! Thanks 🙂

  7. Kelli says:

I love this jacket! Just bought mine in the fall, after you raved about it in the past, and am so glad I did! I love your favorite things’ posts!

  8. Jill says:

Dangerously, I love every color. 😉 Looks perfect for early spring, most of fall in D.C.

The Mondays: July 22, 2024

The Crowdstrike/Microsoft Meltdown forced me to take a few days off this weekend. No laptop. No billable hours. So we packed Sloane up for a visit to a local llama farm, stopped by the pool, went for coffee, etc. Few things are as funny as watching a 23-month old feed carrots to a ravenous rescue […]
