“A thousand words will not leave so deep an impression as a single deed.” — Henrik Ibsen

Brave. How to overcome the fear of asking for a raise.

Sculpted. Love this square-neck sheath from Brooks Brothers.  Also, don’t miss the sale section.  It’s loaded with great dresses.

Resilient. Finding purpose and direction to move forward in your life.

Coiled. Curly girls, dry your hair quickly with no frizz using this Aquis Luxe towel.

Successful. 5 calls-to-action to add to make your e-mails better.

Cozied. Grabbed these v-neck and bow-back sweatshirts for weekend-wear.

Unbreakable. The Fighter Still Remains, a story of cancer and hope.

Floored. This terracotta and sky area rug is about to find itself in my hallway.

Solid. 15 easy, helpful Marie Kondo organizing tips for everyone.

I’m told that this Bioassance Squalane Set ($49) is worth every penny if you have dry winter skin.  I bought it as a Christmas gift for a friend whose skin melts down every winter.  She reports no issues, increased moisture and brightness, and softened fine lines.  So if you suffer from dry skin, give it a try.

Regarding “Resilient”, I struggled feeling lost ever since I graduated with my MFA five years ago. I think there is an in between, at least in my case. Part of feeling lost, is when I start looking at what others are doing, and I feel maybe I should be where they are in life. Or part of it is, that work many days is work. And most days its not very glamourous. I think part of my current struggle is overcoming my idealism and perfectionist nature. There is no right or wrong in life. And if there is the perfect career, I haven’t found it. I wanted to “save the world”, and at 30 I realize that I can still have work success but writing a section of a winning proposal is far from “Saving the World.” There was also the reality check, when I decided against pursuing a Ph.D, in that I didn’t think it made sense to continue on a path where job security and placement was very low, and the salaries were poor. (NOTE: Professors in general (and more so in the Arts and Sciences) make more or less what they made in 1970.) So when you need a job that pays, with benefits, that is challenging but not sexy….I wouldn’t say I am unhappy. But I am still lost from time to time on what to do next.

I have stick-straight coarse Asian hair and LOVE my Aquis microfiber hair towel. I air-dry and it’s the difference between my hair actually drying on the commute to work vs. still being damp a few hours later.

I ordered the Biossance Clean Slate kit and have been using since the beginning of January. I like the peptide eye cream and think I like the retinol alternative treatment. I’m not sure that my skin loves oils though, and I’m curious if others have had similar experiences. No matter how much I seem to use–a small drop, several small drops, slather it on–the oil seems to sit on my face. I’ve tried the Pixi Rose Oil and another one I can’t recall, and I’ve had similar experience with all of them. My skin tends to absorb other moisturizes fine.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

Three Outfits I’ll Wear All Spring

When I started this blog, influencers still re-wore clothes. There were no haul videos filled with the latest from Shein before it winds up in a beach in Ghana poisoning the planet. There were no sponsored campaigns delivering fresh wardrobes each month. The content machine doesn’t like reruns.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.
