Ask the Edit: Jumpsuits for Weddings

Nov 12, 2018

Can you wear a jumpsuit a wedding?  And if you can, how do you style it?  You asked, I answered.

Hi Belle.

Not sure how you feel about jumpsuits, but …. I have three weddings this season and parties and want to live my best life. This jumpsuit from Leota called to me. Do you have any suggestions on how to style? I know I have to have this suit hemmed and am especially wondering about shoes.

Let’s start with some jumpsuit guidelines.  First, jumpsuits often require alterations.  Because they’re one piece, you should buy your jumpsuit to fit the biggest part of you, and then alter the rest.  If you don’t, you can end up with a gaping top or bottoms that ripple and bunch.

Second, unless you are perfectly proportional, jumpsuits should always be worn with heels.  The extra height will lengthen the leg and streamline the whole look.

If I were looking for a shoe for this outfit, I would likely choose a pointed toe shoe in a dark navy.  This simple Steve Madden pump in navy suede is nice.  For more zazz, try this navy glitter pump.

Prefer a sandal?  Stick to something flesh-toned.

As for other accessories, I would ditch the ribbon belt.  I find that they don’t do the job very well, and can look kind of sloppy.  This knotted Boden belt or this Valentino woven belt (sorry, there’s just one!).

For jewelry, I would stick to a pair of big earrings.  These Rachel Zoe chandeliers or these gorgeous Ralph Lauren green-faceted drop earrings (so pretty).  For something simpler, try these Soko Marlo earrings.  Soko jewelry is handmade in Africa by local artisans.

i’ve had multiple friends (as brides) rock a jumpsuit at the reception and LOVE how fun and relaxed they were to dance the night away, love this!

I was a guest at a New York wedding in August. There were SO many women wearing jumpsuits. The bride and groom were both first generation Irish, so I had assumed it was a Irish trend. They still looked so glam!

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.
