Ask the Edit: Casual Summer Tops

Jun 29, 2018

Hi!

Love the blog. I’m looking for a few cute new tops for summer weekends (brunch, neighborhood walks, errands). I’m looking for something classic, yet unique while still being comfortable (I have a toddle so I’m in motion a lot). Appreciate the help!

My definition of casual tends to differ slightly from other people’s definition of casual.  This is because I need my “casual” clothes to do double duty as business casual clothes.  So these suggestions fall somewhere in between.

Boden is one of my favorite sources for bright, fun tops.  This Amanda top in a colorful poppy pattern would look great with white jeans.  To make it work for work, choose a red cardigan.

I also like this patterned Tarifa jersey top in aqua, trimmed in coral.  For a simple top, choose this sleeveless Effie swing top with ruffled trim.

This Madewell striped wrap top is pretty fantastic.  The blouse also comes in a silk version for work.  Madewell also has a gingham tie front, short sleeve top and this daisy print sleeveless top.

For some choices under-$25, try this tie strap camisole from J.Crew Factory.  This LL. Bean poplin tunic top is lovely and casual.  I also like this Old Navy linen top with ruffle trim and this Universal Thread denim button up shirt.

Those wrap tops are SO cute, so sad they are cropped to high-rise pant level. I just can’t seem to get high-rise pants to work for me, and they are EVERYwhere. All of these options are adorable and that first print feels so summery. Bring it on!

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
