Item of the Week: Colorful Trousers

Apr 3, 2018

Colorful pants are all the rage for spring.  From bright yellows to pale pinks, these bottoms are flipping the script on wearing color.  Here are some wonderful options that even have this dedicated skirts/dresses fan thinking about switching up her look.

The weather is still too unpredictable to rely on dresses or skirts.  But I’m ready for spring, dammit.

These verdant wide-leg trousers from Boden just scream springtime.  (They also come in bright pink.)  If green isn’t for you, yellow is another popular color this season.  These bright pants from Talbot’s are bursting with sunshine.  Or go for one of spring’s hottest hues with these coral Alice + Olivia pants.

Other colorful options include these tomato-colored ankle pants, lilac Theory trousers, and these wide leg blush pants.

Plus-size? Try these emerald Worthington pants and these coral Tahari pants.  Petite?  I like these pale blue J.Crew pants and these fuchsia Talbot’s pants.  Tall?  These Anthro slim trousers come in several colors.

Thanks for these – I’m in the market for colorful skirts, so I know the impulse! I’ve been searching for the perfect aqua/turquoise skirt for years now, maybe this spring I’ll finally snag it.

  2. Love the colorful pants! But…now how do we style them to look chic and not like a crayon…

  3. Denise says:

I purchased a pair of pale blue (almost a pale teal) trousers from Banana Republic last year as a last minute solution to a cold, rainy Kentucky Derby day (there was no way I was going to freeze for the sake of fashion!). I am surprised by how often I wear them in the spring / summer! And I always get compliments! So nice with a crisp white blouse and a fun necklace.

I’m eyeing a pair of pants like this … anything else you wear with them other than a white shirt? Trying to figure out how versatile they would be.

      • Belle says:

I would go with a different hue in the same family. So a mint sweater with green. A navy sweater with cobalt. With yellow, green, grey or a back/white print. With pink, red or navy or grey.

      • Denise says:

I have worn them with a short sleeve grey sweater, with a light pink cami under a white cardigan, and with a navy sweater.

  4. J says:

I have some bright pink pants from about 4-5 years ago that I just tossed in the donate pile. They seem so dated. Maybe it is the cut? I like all the pastels this season.

    • Niki says:

I am wearing my hot pink J.Crew Minnies right now – they are my happy pants. I get lots of compliments on them, but I live in an area that is hardly fashion forward so YMMV!

      • J says:

Thanks for this! The problem is much more likely the fit (I bought them pre-baby) and (related) a cut that is straight but longer than ankle. Maybe they never fit me well and the color isn’t the issue at all. Ha!!

  5. Stunning!!! I like a lot the colors 🙂 xo xo I just pin it!

  6. Chloe says:

I am a short person, who trips in heels, size 4-8 (depending on the day!). But you likely would want some kind of wedge with these types of pants, right? What sort of flats might work?

Are skinny colored jeans totally out? (Work in a very casual tech office, am 30 in a mid/senior manager role). Thoughts from Belle/commenters?

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
