End of The Day: A New Feature

Mar 22, 2018

The reading posts I do each week are some of my favorites, but they’re getting a little long.  So I decided to break out the End of The Day section into its own feature.  This post will feature what I’m watching, eating, listening to, buying and more.

These glazed strawberry fritters from Her Cup of Joy look amazing.  Bridal shower?  Sleep over?  Family in town?  These are a brunch-time crowd pleaser that are perfect for a large group of guests.  Keep these warm and fresh with these tips, because no one likes a soggy fritter.

Not into fritters? Try this overnight sticky-bun French toast.  It tastes like you slaved over a hot stove for it.

My summer uniform is basically jersey dress + sandals + necklace.  This Gap Softspun Midi Dress is at the top of my shopping list.  This Need Supply Co. maxi dress and this BCBGeneration long-sleeve swing dress are also on my list.  Plus-size? Try this side-ruched Vince Camuto dress.

I was a big fan of the original, but Kacey Musgraves version of Neon Moon is amazing.  It has a haunting quality to it, but with a slight disco vibe.  If only she would release it as a single.

Sometimes, we all need a pick me up.  I’m at a crossroads.  Mid-life crisis feels a little strong, but a turning point.  Like most Type-A, motivated chicks, no one can give me advice.  But I need a guide through this maze, so I’ve picked up a few books.

You are a Badass is insightful without being treacly.  It’s like a guidebook to sorting out your shit.

Food52 is still one of the best food blogs out there.  Whether it’s a decadent hot chocolate, the perfect whiskey sour, or an innovative sandwich recipe, they always have something good to share.  I make one of their recipes at least once per week.

The Gap dress has been sitting in my cart for the last couple of days, I guess I need to pull the trigger.

    • Nicole says:

Have this dress, love this dress. It’s pretty perfect.

      • Stefanie S. says:

How clingy is this dress? It looks like it might be a great option for me, but I’m postpartum so I need something that doesn’t draw attention to the lower belly right now.

  2. Jessica says:

I would like to suggest The Simple Art of Not Giving a F*ck by Marc Manson. The title is misleading and spot on at the same time. It definitely makes you think about things from a different perspective and I’ve really enjoyed reading it.

  3. Peri says:

I am halfway through “You Are A Badass” and I am really enjoying it. I also recently finished “Year of Yes” and loved that as well (going through a phase here…). Prior, I read “The Subtle Art of Not Giving A F*ck” and it wasn’t for me…but everything resonates differently with everyone. There are a few other self-help books I am looking into, so I’d love any other suggestions. Happy reading!

  4. KH says:

Obsessed with Kacey Musgraves. Her new album has some good songs on it, but for sure check out her version of Apologize.

  5. RKT says:

I love Neon Moon, and this cover is great – what a voice. What I have never understood, though, is people who play “Neon Moon” as a romantic song at a wedding – Musgraves’ cover really captures the melancholy of the song.

  6. Allison says:

I love that Gap midi dress, but I can’t seem to make the midi trend work casually. I’m 5’8 and have good legs, but without heels I feel truncated in a midi and the hem seems to hit at a very unflattering spot. Any tips? Is this a case of my eye needing to adjust to the change in hemlines?

    • Belle says:

You can hem it, or sometimes (if there’s enough give), I’ll have slits put up the sides. It opens up the silhouette and makes it less body con, but with such a tight skirt, there may not be enough material.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

The Find: Like a McCall’s Pattern

When I was young, my Mother used to bring me along when she would go shopping for fabric. As a result, I spent a lot of time, killing time, flipping through pattern books. So when I spotted this dress, I was instantly transported to the pattern table at a Jo-Ann Fabrics.

Ask the Editor: Vol. IV, No. Eighteen

Before we start today’s reader questions, I wanted to take a moment to talk a bit about mental health. For those who experience mental health challenges — whether occasionally or frequently — talking about our struggles is a double-edged sword.
