Item of the Week: Contrast Trim

Feb 14, 2018

The crispness of black and white cannot be overstated.  Contrast trim is back in a big way this spring, and some of the pieces are just to die for.  Here’s how to rock this sophisticated trend.

The contrast trim/piping trend is likely on order because the menswear pajamas look is back.  If you’re into that look or want to give it a try, this BCBG top in blush and black is cute.  Otherwise, let’s talk about black and white pieces.

This Finn & Grace blouse ($78) could be worn to work or with jeans.  I adore the little bows on the sleeves. And the v-neck will look lovely under a simple blazer.

If you have some money to spend, this Elie Tahari blouse is a showstopper. For something more relaxed, try this popover top with a vent sleeve from Chico’s.  And Everlane’s piped silk pocket shirt has just the right mix of office blouse and pajama top.

Plus-size? This Ralph Lauren cotton shirt is nice, so is this Calvin Klein top.  Petite?  Try this simple Ann Taylor blouse.  Maternity?  Have a look at this Corinne top from Hatch.

For something more classic, Boden has a wide selection of contrast trim items this spring.  The two best?  This positively Kate Middleton worthy Jane dress and Kaley occasion coat.  Both pieces are impossibly chic.

Any tips for wearing a tie-sleeve blouse under a blazer? Tuck the ties into the blazer sleeve? Let them peek out? I’ve been avoiding blouses with tie sleeves because of this issue.

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
