Commute: No. 16

Feb 12, 2018

“I had to make my own living and my own opportunity.  But I made it!  Don’t sit down and wait for the opportunities to come.  Get up and make them.” — Madam C.J. Walker (If you don’t know who she is, you need to.)

Smoky Backrooms. How sexual harassment shapes politics in Washington — you must read “The Flirting Trap.”

Anything But. This not-so-basic black Mango satchel is the work bag you’ve been looking for.  And it’s $59.

Feminism for Profit. Women’s rights are a hot commodity, literally.  With NYFW taking a stand, The Fashion Law asks if they’re putting their money where their mouth is.

Random Outfit Generator.  A contrast-piped blouse, a pleated skirt, and red shoes.

Before You Go, Go. The Bustle covers the 11 things you should never do right after waking up.  Apparently, my affection for the snooze button is a crime.  But we’re so good together

Base Layer. I just bought this Everlane v-neck tank and this high neck tank to wear with cardigans.  Can’t get enough of them.

Bonus Time. Why so many employers prefer giving one-time bonuses to raising salaries, and how it’s impacting the economy.

February Refresh. Ann Taylor at Work has some lovely pieces.  How about a winter-to-spring floral or a peplum suiting jacket.

Bench It. How you can build muscle from the comfort of your living room with a pair of free weights and nine minutes.

Bargain Hunter. My top 3 under-$10 beauty products: this heat-protectant spray, these acne-clearing dots and this brow/highlighter pencil.

Like a Boss. Whether it’s the micromanager, the supervisor who’s too busy for you, or the slacker, The Cut covers nine types of bad bosses and how to work for them.

With Valentine’s Day coming up, it has me thinking about flowers.  I’ve never particularly cared for roses.  These dark burgundy peonies are more my speed.  If you’re looking for something more unique, try protea.  Want something inexpensive, chic, and long lasting?  Try carnations, in a single color, in a short vase.

Saw It On Social: Rooted

A few months ago, my husband killed two of my plants. I was out of town for several weeks, and while I was away, he apparently forgot that plants need water to live. So when I returned, my snake plant and my Calamondin tree were both dead, while his braided money tree continued to thrive. […]

It’s allegedly spring. However, for every minute of sunshine, there seems to be an hour of rain and gloom. So while I’d love to wear lighter spring pieces, it’s time to bring on the layers.

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
