The Beauty Edit: Sonya Dakar Flash Facial

Jan 23, 2018

My skin’s texture could be charitably described as uneven.  A lifetime of acne scarring saw to that.  And when your skin is about as smooth as an orange rind, dry skin is your enemy.

Sure, you can moisturize, but that’s only half of the battle.  You need to exfoliate, but if you over exfoliate, you’ll just wind up with more dry skin.  It’s a vicious cycle.  What’s a lady to do?

Last week, I spotted Sonya Dakar’s Flash Facial in Damsel in Dior’s Instastory.  A one-minute facial in a bottle that smooths, brightens and softens?  And I’m ordering.

I previously used Drunk Elephant’s TLC Sakara Babyfacial to give my face a quick once over.  But it wasn’t a perfect product.  First off, it stings a little, which isn’t ideal.  And second, it dries out my skin more than I would like.  So I was happy to try something else.

Fast forward to yesterday.  My skin looked really tired after a week of not sleeping, and I needed to look fresh as a daisy.  So I decided to give the Flash Facial a try and, whoa.

You apply a thin layer of the viscous gel to your face, leave it on for a minute, and rinse it off in circular motions.  That’s it.  And as your drying your face, try not to faint from how amazing your skin looks.

The product is made with “lactic acid to gently detoxify, Hylasome (5 times more moisturization than standard hyaluronic acid), and anti-oxidant rich resveratrol to nourish.”  I also wasn’t imagining the plumpness, it’s designed to brighten, smooth, and plump.  But it’s most amazing result?  My skin has never, ever felt softer.  Ever.

I’d never used a Sonya Dakar product before, and this one got me curious about the brand.  Their products are made in the USA and focuses on a natural, botanical approach to skincare.  I wanted to try some more of her products, but the price points are high.  So I was thrilled to find that she had anti-aging and clarifying trial kits.  I’m all about try-before-you-buy.

I try a lot of beauty products.  Recently, I’ve been on a hot streak of good finds.  But this Flash Facial, this one is really special.  I’ve never had a product promise me near-instant results and deliver.  I am seriously impressed.

Have you tried ExfoiliKate? That’s my favorite product.

    • Belle says:

I tried it, wasn’t my favorite. Felt the same as I do about the Drunk Elephant. It’s pretty good, but not amazing for me.

Hi Abra! Always appreciate your product reviews because you don’t hesitate to call a spade a spade – this one sounds almost too good to be true! Did you have any problems with sensitivity or redness after using this? I’m sold on your description of the results, but pausing at the $95 price tag and some of the mixed reviews on Amazon. Thanks for sharing!

NO! And that’s part of what makes it so amazing. She designed it to be non-irritating, even on sensitive skin. I felt nothing, and my skin is like mid-sensitive.

The company seems really responsive, they emailed me today to ask if I needed a skin consult. So maybe you could email them and ask for a sample?

I recently asked for a sample of the drunk elephant facial from Sephora and the associate recommended their facial oil to follow it since it’s quite intense as you describe. I’ve tried the combo twice so far and am loving the results! Hurray for the generous samples at Sephora (I have at least two more uses). Looking forward to checking out this product when my samples are gone!

Business Casual Outfit: Linen Closet

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.
