Item of the Week: Animal Print

Dec 11, 2017

Winter wardrobes can be so boring.  Black, camel, and ivory are all classics, but sometimes they need a little pop.  I am a huge fan of animal print for lifting basic pieces.

Leopard.  The loudest, the coolest, the best.  When choosing a leopard piece, stay away from pieces that have too much yellow or orange in them.  Stick with neutral colors and simple patterns.

This BP. Leopard Scarf ($19) is the perfect example of subdued leopard.  I also like this leopard skinny belt from Marks and Spencer.  If it’s shoes you’re after, I recommend these ankle boots, these flats, and these pumps.  And, because it’s a must-have for any woman, this MindyMae foldover clutch.

Pair this scarf with black and ivory separates.  It would also look amazing with jewel tones or red.

Tortoise goes beyond simple sunglasses.  I love tortoise jewelry, like this Stella & Dot bangle.  Tortoise hair clips are also a subtle, chic option.  This chainlink tortoise headband is really cute.  If it’s shoes you’re after, these Talbot’s pumps are the best thing on the market.

Snakeskin.  I know a few of you aren’t into snakeskin, but it’s a chic option if you love to wear color.  The grey and white print pairs well with any hue.  If you want a simpler choice, a tonal snakeskin provides a great texture for simple pieces.

For a mixed palette, I like these Cole Haan Julianna pumps.  For a tonal palette, these grey Madison pumps from Banana Republic are cool.  For bags, I think these Celine Dion (yes, the singer) snakeskin satchels are surprisingly chic.

Cheetah.  If leopard isn’t for you, cheetah might be.  It’s a simpler pattern — fewer colors, more uniformity.  These affordable Old Navy pumps are a great example of a subtle cheetah print.  I also like this Trotter’s print flat.  I also like this black and white clutch from Etsy is an affordable option.

Don’t forget giraffe! My giraffe-print flats have received more compliments than any other pair of shoes.

The Find: Bright and Striped

For the past few years, the wardrobes of many influencers have tilted toward the beige and boring.  I’m all for a good basic, but staple pieces can only take you so far.  Sometimes, you need to wear something that has a little something extra, and this sale-priced tee certainly does.
