The Lingerie Rules, Summer Edition

Aug 17, 2017

Just because it’s not Valentine’s Day doesn’t mean we can’t talk about lingerie (see January’s post, here).  Pretty underthings are a good buy any time of year.  Here are the best lingerie and sleepwear picks for the end-of-summer.

Sleep Attire. Our house is so hot in the summer.  Even with A/C, the style of the home makes the upstairs nearly impossible to cool.  So what do you sleep in to avoid the heat?

My first choice would be a cute sleep set.  My current favorite is this $20 Target set with pom-pom trim.  I also like the floral print on this Kohl’s set.  The Kohl’s set is also available in plus-size.  If you have a bit of money to spend, try the sweet bows on this Sadie Sleep Set.

I also like a chemise made out of soft jersey.  Unlike silk chemises, they breathe.  These white Eberjey number has cap sleeves.  This PJ salvage slip has a hint of lace, while this Naked Jersey chemise is plain (but so comfortable).  Plus-size?  Try this one from Honeydew Intimates.

You may also want to consider a romper.  They’re not my favorite, but both this embroidered BHLDN romper and sultry Free People romper have me rethinking that.

If none of this is to your liking, you can always sleep in the nude.

Lingerie.  One of the reasons I wrote this post is that the lingerie colors are so much better in the summer.  In the fall/winter, almost everything is black.  Around Valentine’s, they release a few colors, but the selection is better in the warmer months.

This Soma Intimates bralette is so unique, and I love the adobe rose and slate blue colors.   This Else iris-purple bra is pretty, on sale, and something you could wear comfortably.  This pink satin set from Anthro is also a really great look.

Also, if you are looking for just black, try it in a summery floral embroidery–this Stella McCartney set is one you cannot miss.

Plus-size/larger bust, this Elomi Carmean bra (34G to 46DD) is really beautiful with a cool lace trim.  Ashley Graham is also making a line of intimates; I love this steel grey bra.

If you have a special occasion coming up, this Madalynne off-the-shoulder bodysuit is spectacular.  I also like this Chantal Thomass set with crazy fringe details.

You are so right about buying pretty under things during the summer months! These options are on point.

I just read the about page, and noticed that you split your time in two different areas currently, but that you want to end up in DC full time by the end of this year. I know you don’t owe us any explanation at all, but wondering if you are going to do a life update and what you’re thinking, given you have a boyfriend in Washington state.

We’re trying to move. In our case, the X factor is Kyle’s job. I recently took a job with a campaign out West, so I’m back every 4-6 weeks. My sincere hope is to win this election and head back. But it’s so hard when you’re talking about two futures and not one.
