Seven Work Blouses Under-$100

Aug 9, 2017

A great blouse is a must.  On busy mornings, being able to reach for a top that makes you feel put together is a lifesaver.  A stylish blouse can complete a basic business suit, bring new life to a simple pencil skirt, or jazz up a pair of jeans.  Here are seven blouses that are perfect for the summer-fall transition.

(And while we re-work the design, if you missed today’s Workday Reading, catch it here.)

This moody floral LOFT blouse has a wonderful color scheme and looks much more expensive than its $50 price point (also in petite).

This Pleione blouse ($34) is a wardrobe staple.  Nordstrom sells it every season in a selection of colors and styles.  The shape is also flattering on a number of body types.

This Tie Front Tunic Top from Eloquii ($69) comes in plus-size and plus-petite.  This top would look great with a pair of jeans or slim-cut pants, just add a bold necklace.

The peek-a-b00 sleeves on this H Halston blouse ($89) add lightness to an otherwise staid look.  I’d tuck it into a teal pencil skirt for a modern, sleek color palette.

The vibrant chain-print blouse from Mango ($59) is a really bold piece.  The unusual shape makes it a showstopper.  Wear it with the matching skirt or with grey trousers.

This Dorothy Perkins Curve blouse with a pleated back ($39) is a lot of fun.  I love the soft blush color, and the style is very cool.  I think I’d add a bright pink tassel necklace.

I kept coming back to this Express Puff Sleeve blouse ($49) and thinking, “No, that’s not that one.”  But it is, it is the one.  And not just for the obvious Anne of Green Gables reference.  I love it because it’s something different and bold.  It would be awesome with white pants.

I’m loving your picks – especially that puff sleeve top!

Great post, thanks. What I especially like about this selection is that they work for a variety of ages as well as body types.

I love that dark blue floral, but ugh, polyester! I just can’t bring myself to buy the stuff anymore. Most of the year in California I’d be sweating through it in no time at all!

    • Erin says:

I have also broken up with polyester, at least in clothes with sleeves. Maybe other people have better ways of dealing with this, but the pit area gets so smelly after one wear! It does limit your options quite a bit:(

      • Maggie says:

I used to have the same problem until someone told me a life changing trick. Fold the clean (but still smelly) shirt, place it in a gallon-size freezer bag, and freeze it for 24-48 hours. Whatever happens to it in the freezer completely gets rid of the smell. It’s magical and has saved so many of my blouses!

  4. S in dc says:

I am often drawn to the Pleione top, but I’m never quite sure how to wear it to work. I don’t wear skirts and typically wear trouser style bottoms. Would I need to tuck in that back hem?

  5. Breamons says:

Loving this collection of blouses! If you bought every single one you’d be good to go for an entire season of work!

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.

Before we start today’s reader questions, I wanted to take a moment to talk a bit about mental health. For those who experience mental health challenges — whether occasionally or frequently — talking about our struggles is a double-edged sword.
