The Workday Reading: July 19, 2017

Jul 19, 2017

The blog is a little slow this week.  There are two reasons for this.

First, the new design is launching next Tuesday/Wednesday.  I have final confirmation of this.  It is glorious, but it needs my attention.

Second, I started a new job this week.  I am somehow back on the political campaign trail.  We’ll discuss this more at a later date, but today, as I was editing a donor list, I kept thinking, “I feel 25 again, but with grey hair and cellulite.”

1) How I stopped checking my phone, and started using it with intention. (Medium)

2) LK Bennett has the best, most ladylike dresses.  I need this utterly chic a-line, STAT.

3) What is “stage zero” breast cancer? (Marie Claire)

4) A monogram coffee mug so chic, I might actually buy it.

5) How bosses are literally like dictators. (Vox)

6) Musts from the Reiss Sale: a red twist-front dress, a textured blue suit, a slate blue top.

7) A video about microblading (eyebrow tattooing) that covers everything. (Refinery29)

8) $5 Well Worth It: Wet ‘n Wild Highlighting Powder.

9) Should you be able to openly use sick days for mental health? (Allure)

10) This fresh, pale blue M&S tote is just $64. Also loving their Dolly crossbody bag.

11) 8 Reasons to Turn Down a Job Offer. (Levo)

12) This H&M caftan is the greatest swimsuit cover-up, ever.

What Caught My Eye. You know I love a good remodel.

What’s Offensive. That thousands of women are suing Kay jewelers for sexual harassment, and the jeweler may have swapped out diamonds in customer’s rings for cheaper stones.

What I Bought with My Amazon Gift Card.  A blender.  I’m officially an old person.

  1. Alison says:

A+ choice on the blender. My Ninja is my favorite appliance (and my favorite wedding gift). I use the smoothie cups that came with mine all the time instead of a small food processor.

  2. Gigi says:

Ha, I used my Amazon gift card to buy a vacuum. Oh adulthood.

  3. Erica says:

I needed that reminder today! (the quote) Thanks.

  4. Anna says:

On #9, back when I was a dumb dumb who didn’t realize how important it is to take at least one real vacation a year, I would take what I called “Anna Days” and made no qualms about it. I used vacation days though

  5. Lindsey says:

I love the Anthro mugs, but some of them don’t have the cute big letter. Look at the L! I don’t get why they aren’t all the same. The big letter ones are really cute. And I’m with you on most monogram mugs.

    • Belle says:

So many monograms are just too precious. Like, how old am I? Too old to have my initials on my mug in hot pink cursive.

      • SC says:

I bought one of the simpler “Monogram Mugs” from Anthro for a friend back in 2011 (I can’t believe they’re still available!), and she still uses it…I might need to get one for myself too.

  6. Chelsea says:

Love the quote! All of Elisabeth Elliot’s books are excellent. If you haven’t read one, Through Gates of Splendor is a great place to start.

  7. Kate K says:

Congrats on your new job, Belle!

And just like that, it’s April. Summer is almost upon us, and the retailers are filled with linen wares. Now, you know that I am usually unwilling to wear linen to work due to the wrinkles. But in this post-pandemic world, perhaps my mind can change.

The Range: Spring Blouses for Work (or Zoom)

Since Sloane was born, I’ve fallen hard into a black, white, and blue wardrobe. This is not necessarily a bad thing, but as spring blooms, I need a little color in my wardrobe (and probably a little print too). Here are a few tops that caught my eye for work.

Too Many Tabs: April 19, 2024

This week, I fell mindlessly into my phone more than I think I ever have. My screen time went from 3.5 hours per day to 5 hours per day. But the increased eye strain did lead to some good finds. Just going to leave this right here.  (I really need to work on “Didn’t make […]
