Just bought the mango bag. Thanks for the rec!

  2. Katie C. says:

The gold hardware on the red bag and the final tan bag make them look so much more expensive than they are. Great finds!

I feel like these bags fall into the category of throwaway fashion. Especially with purses, you get what you pay for.

    • Cl says:

Absolutely agree, money should be spent on purses and coats (especially winter) as cheap ones will show a million miles away – quality will always be/look bad. Spend some extra for a Burberry winter coat or a nice bag and it will last you a lifetime. Shoes, and regular clothing like tops, is where one can go cheaper and get away with it, they also won’t last very long regardless of price.

      • Pompom says:

I mean, until you save up for your $2k bag, how do you carry your stuff to your entry level job?

These things–even if not ideal, or your spending preference–have a place in the market. Sometimes to supplement, as Belle notes, or to be all you’ve got, these do the trick.

        • Belle says:

You don’t need a $2k bag. There are so many good brands now in the $400-$800 range. I see few difference between the $2k bags and most of the $700 ones, except the logo.

          • Pompom says:

I agree, definitely. I was just engaging in a little hyperbole to make my (perhaps ill made) point. There is a gulf between a 75$ bag and a 700$ bag, and for many folks at the start of their career, or in lower paying careers, these options you’ve listed are an important segment of the market.

            • Belle says:

You’re right on both counts, unfortunately some of the $250-$350 splurge aren’t made the other significantly better quality. It’s maddening.

    • Belle says:

But maybe that’s all you want. I own good purses, and I own purses that once the season’s over, I’m done with them. It’s all about what you’re shopping for. For a trend piece, like a bucket bag or backpack, why splurge when maybe next year, you won’t even want to carry it?

      • Michelle says:

That’s the definition of throwaway fashion though, right? You wear/use an item for a short period of time, and then discard it when you’re over it.

        • Belle says:

Sure. I buy a purse I need for a summer, then I take it to Goodwill. Does it matter if that’s a $50 purse or a $250 purse? The price tag isn’t what determines whether it’s throwaway. I have $40 Zara tops that are three years old, and I have $150 blouses I’ve sold a month later. Unless you’re planning on using the item for your entire life, to some extent, all fashion is throwaway. And to the other reader’s point, maybe this is all you can afford.

The Find: A Striped Tee

Without question, the most worn item in my wardrobe is a black-and-white striped tee. I wear it in winter under sweaters, in spring with white jeans, in summer with black shorts. I’ve been wearing the same one for years (it’s the best). But they don’t make it anymore. So here are some options for replacement.
