Item of the Week: Wrapover Blouses

H&M Wrapover Blouse ($35)

I love a little drama in my wardrobe.  Whether it’s a party in the back (like on this OdlR top) or a dramatic shoulder (like on this Bailey44 blouse), I like when a piece of clothing makes a bold statement.  And the wrapover blouse trend certainly makes a statement.

I’ve seen these wrapover tops on a lot of bloggers lately.  My one issue is that they usually choose tops that also have a dramatic ruffled sleeve.  The voluminous wrap with the ruffle sleeve looks a bit too Carmen Miranda for me.  But this H&M blouse has a more conservative sleeve, making it a nice piece for the office if you style it right.  Tune in tomorrow for more advice on that topic.

Until then, I also love this $69 WAYF top from Nordstrom in your choice of white or blue-stripe.  H&M is also selling a simple wrapover sweater, which would look great over a camisole as a cardigan alternative.  You can also add a bell sleeve, like on this bold, red boohoo Nora top.  For something very conservative, this French Connection blouse is perfect for a more staid take on this trend.

Plus-size? I found this Eloquii top, which is a bit more conservative for the office.  Forever21 has a surplice top with a bit more drama to it.  Petite ladies, I hunted around, but I didn’t find anything I really liked.  I’ll give it another shot tonight, and if I find something, add it to tomorrow’s post.

The image looks super blurry. Not sure if it’s a computer specific thing or not.

I do like a simple wrapped shirt, it’s the drama versions (missing shoulders/backs/elbows) that are a bit much. The dominance of these weird amalgamations of deconstruction and ruffles with suiting pinstripes are so strange to me.

Did you see Racked’s take on this trend? https://www.racked.com/2017/4/4/15136836/off-the-shoulder-blouse-pinstripe-luxury-shirts

I love a good simple wrap top! I agree that they can sometimes be too much haha

I own this blouse!! Bought it to wear with high waisted jeans for my birthday party and it’s also getting some mileage with a black pencil for work! Excellent pick.

Wrap tops are also super-slimming, so that’s another plus! I love finding office-appropriate pieces that are on-trend–thanks for the round-up!

Beauty Review: Bondi Boost

As I age, I notice many changes in my body. Most are fine. Some are frustrating. Like many women, I lost a lot of hair in my postpartum phase. Being anemic for more than a year after, it didn’t grow back in to its former glory. So I’ve tried any number of shampoos, pills and […]

The Mondays: March 18, 2024

This weekend was a tricky one. The warm weather and bright sunshine of last weekend disappeared in a flurry of wet snow trapping our very active 18-month-old in the house with us. Plus, our babysitter cancelled, so neither of us feels ready for the week ahead. But in between making mac-and-cheese and watching Aristocats for […]
